Clipboard problem in Excel 2016

Hello,

I wanted to report back that several members of the product group are looking into this again. They will look at some data to see if this is a problem that has gotten worse more recently and review the results of an earlier investigation. My perception is that it didn't recently get worse...it is a long-standing problem. I'll update this thread when I hear more. thank you for your patience.

I have same problem with a new installation of Office 365 running under Window 7, 64 bit.  Within Excel, I get error #2 as defined earlier by Mike.  Problem goes away when I close Outlook.  After reopening Outlook, one cell move was successful then the message occurred when I tried to move the data back to the original cell.  Word 2016 does not give message.  Excel 2007 did not exhibit this behavior. 

This is a personal computer but I had a clipboard problem on a work computer with Excel 2013.  I don't remember if it was message #2 but the copy/move action always worked, I just had to clear the message each time.

I haven't even paid for the Office 365 yet (one month free trial) so this is frustrating to have the same problem I used to get under 2013.  I am 100% behind Uwe's comments.

Please read my analysis and comment here in this thread from January 4th, 2017. There you have it all and as you can read I have already done all the experiments you suggested. No problems whatsoever with any other Microsoft or non-Microsoft program.

There are not 2 different errors.

There are only some different error messages caused by the same issue.

In my case the cause for the annoying behavior of Excel is the feature "clipboard surveillance" of my telephone program - fairly similar to the "Skype web plugin". On some comments it has been reported that Skype web plugin also causes the trouble and should be removed. But that is no solution. That is a workaround. As well as switching off my clipboard surveillance, as I had to do for being able to work with Excel as my main tool in the office.

But the real issue is, as I wrote on the German thread: "Of course, the problem is caused by Excel, because Excel looks at the clipboard as a private property, which no other program is allowed to access, without being commented completely unnecessary by Excel."

And there is a simple solution: Just delete the one line of codethat calls the completely unnecessary message popup about "There is a light on in the basement".

Why do users have to explain this issue over and over again during the last 4 years(since Excel 2013) and nobody at Microsoft minds to read or understand them???

Here is some information on what I see. It's a type #2 error in your classification.

When I have a VirtualBox VM running, copying in Excel gives me the "There's a problem..." message. I can paste the copied cells within Excel but not into Word or Notepad. I can copy between Word and Notepad without problem. If I copy in Word and paste into Excel, it pastes the cells I previously copied in Excel.

Without VirtualBox, everything works as I expect.

For me, this is reproducible every time I've tried it.

So I would say that VirtualBox is implicated (others have mentioned different applications) but whatever it's doing, other Office apps are not affected. Does Excel do something special with the clipboard?
