How to restore MS Office Outlook 2007 folders back in Outlook

Sir or Madam,

I had a technical problem with my Lap Top computer and backed up all my MS Office Outlook 2007 files and folders. I resolved the problem.

I opened my Seagate Expansion drive, discovered the folders and right clicked each sending them to my documents folder.

I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer.

I need your assistance in restoring those folders back in Outlook.

I am also using a desk top PC as well.

MS Office Outlook 2007 is working well.

I am using MS Vista.

Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

I am sorry if I contacted the wrong community. If so please send this to the correct one.

Regards,

    Earle,

Repeat the search you did before [the one you posted a screenshot of].  I only thought that archive.pst would be in that folder because your screenshot showed it to be there.  If it is no longer there then complete the task without it and worry about it separately afterwards.

Archive.pst is used by Outlook to archive certain items [for example, calendar entries] if your Outlook settings are used to tell it to.  It's a different subject and going any further into it now would just be a diversion.

I am not getting online much this year, hence the delayed response.

    1.8 A Windows Box Appears.

    Windows can’t open this file:

    File:       Outlook.pst

To open this file, windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs that are installed on your computer.

What do you want to do?

    A. Use the Web service to find the correct program?

    B. Select a program from a list of installed programs?

    OK or Cancel.

    Please advise earle

    Earle,

To open the Outlook application, use the shortcut to the Outlook application that is in your Start menu - you have used it before or you could never have had the Outlook application running.  Then, as explained in para 1.8, wait for it to complain that it cannot find its pst file[s]. In the dialog that opens, browse to C:\Users\Earle\My Documents\PIM, select Outlook.pst and click onOpen.  Outlook will now open the same file as it was using before and will go on doing so every time it opens from now on.

It is the Outlook application that then opens the pst file not you.  pst files are not like normal files, you cannot just double-click on them to open them using their associated application as you can with doc or xls files.

A  Caution box opened and stated You are attempting to open a file of type Microsoft Office Outlook Personal Folders (.pst)

These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Editing or modifying them could damage your system.

If you still want to open the file, click Open with. Otherwise, click cancel.

    What should I do?
