Microsoft Charge Taxes (VAT) but refuse to give a VAT invoice on payment of renewal

I have just had a very lengthy on line discussion (that was a complete waste of time) where I have requested from Microsoft.com, a full VAT Invoice for a payment that I have made but have not received it apart from a receipt which is not an invoice with VAT etc. shown so I can claim my payment back.

It is so difficult getting help from Microsoft and the patronising words that are used is very infuriating - sentences like *"*Please forgive us for the inconvenience that this has caused you, but please do not worry, I will be happy to help you resolve this today." what is all that about it is like I am communicating with a computer - maybe I am.

How do I get a full invoice from Microsoft which includes VAT (taxes) - thanks

Microsoft do give VAT invoices but you need to be using the correct browser.

Make sure the browser you are using is either Edge or Internet Explorer and log into your account, select payments & billing, then the order you require a VAT receipt for, click on `details' under the total amount shown, then tax invoice and voila there it is.

Just encountered the same issue for the first time.

Telephoned the 0800 number shown above and was informed that I will have to wait 48 hours for a VAT receipt to be generated and then need to go to commerce.microsoft.com to find it. So not out of the woods yet.

The person in the call centre was unable to see the potential benefits of just issuing a single VAT receipt, in the microsoft store, at the time of purchase!

I have spent literally hours trying to get through to someone at Microsoft who can do the simple thing and send me a VAT invoice for my MS Assure subscription renewal. Accounts and Billing say you have to go the Tech Support and the website is entirely unhelpful.

Dialling the 0800 026 0329 number, helpfully supplied above by sg5555, which takes you to the Microsoft Store at least provided an intelligent person who said that commerce.microsoft.com gets you to an account sign-in from which the purchase history can be shown and the "show print view" gets you to something nearer to a VAT invoice though not quite what I would have expected - at least the letters V A T appear under Microsoft billing address (though there is no location or VAT registered entity address) as "VAT IDLU9878750". Whether this is a valid VAT registered number or not I do not know.

Microsoft should just send a proper VAT Invoice with the Microsoft Purchase Confirmation email. What is their problem with providing customers with proper documentation?

Surely to charge Vat and then refuse to issue a Vat invoice is illegal...

Perhaps this should be taken up MHIR and Customs its breaking the law

I just received this email from the Microsoft department handling this issue (email taxexmpt@microsoft.com)

"I certainly understand the necessity of this invoice and do apologize for any inconvenience caused by the fact that Microsoft does not automatically generate VAT invoices for downloadable products. In the future, you may manually request a VAT invoice for downloadable items via phone by calling 0800 026 0329."

They are certainly not making things easy for their customers - but at least they are not flouting the law as it seemed!
