Can't Sign Out Of Outlook In Browsers?

I don't know about anyone else, but in my never very humble opinion not being able to sign out of Outlook is a huge problem and a major flaw. The way it stands now, any browser on any machine where I open my Outlook will be able to go back in to my email without logging in, whether I'm there or not. And none of the things any support person has tried solves the issue. I've already been thru all of it, removing cookies, history, changing settings, different browsers, changing certificates, etc. and still it is impossible to sign out of Outlook in a browser.

I know I'm no expert, but nobody should have to jump thru all those hoops just to force my browsers to let me sign out of Outlook. And everybody tells me Microsoft made it this way by design?? WHAT?

FIX THIS! I'm no expert, but I'm no ordinary dummy user, either. I'm a developer so I can try things without messing up my machine. But nothing I've tried so far has made any difference. When the browser opens, and I go to Outlook, it automatically logs in and lets whomever is sitting at the computer have full access to my email.

Do you not see this as a major design flaw, Bill?

    We resolved this issue by putting a shortcut to Office 365 webmail on the users\public\desktop that runs "iexplore.exe -private -nosessionmerging".  This does not cache any credentials, so it cannot automatically log in again if the browser has been closed.  There is one other caveat of running O365 webmail in internet explorer this way.  When the user selects "sign out" from the avatar, it logs the user out and because the browser is not closed, it logs them right back on again.  I know this is not the most best situation, but,  if the user just closes Internet Explorer then it does not log the user back on the next time internet Explorer is opened, and this is what we have told our users to do.    This solution does work.

    If I'm seeing this right, the reason the reponse was 1. simplistic 2. irrelevant and 3. like so many other tech 'help' responses, is that it was from a Microsoft bot, and not a human

    I am having same problem.  Desktop outlook/hotmail, windows 10.   I click on icon in far right upper corner - sometimes list appears with sign out at bottom but when clicked to sign out I am scrolled right back into my open email account again.  OR, I click on the icon and no list comes up as if the icon button doesn't work.   This appears to be a microsoft issue.

    Same thing happens to me. Not attached to a uni or anything. Outlook just won't let me log out. Considering using another email.

    I was going insane trying to figure out how to log out of my work email from the link on my college's website. I don't understand why they made it so difficult, but this worked. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I can now actually view my college emails from my college's site.
