Rotate PDF's in OneNote

Thanks very much for that simple workaround, using Print command in Adobe, output to OneNote, and then setting the orientation to Portrait, instead of Auto. Works perfectly on Win7x64 and OneNote 2010.

I have been looking  for "forever" for something like this and I had no idea you had developed the OneTastic tool to rotate PDF file printouts. Usually, there isn't a problem in OneNote with printouts until you try something oversized (like Award Certificates, for instance). Anything that originally appears in landscape mode as well.

Both your explanation above and the tool itself have made my day as I couldn't figure it out. Now all is well! It works completely awesome and thank you so much for making it!!

Hi I downloaded OneStatic and am having trouble rotating a printout file in onenote. Care to lend any help?

Rohn007, let me first say that I am not a spokesperson or a business decision maker at Microsoft, just reflecting my experience personally.

This is not as sad as you think. When Microsoft releases a feature it has to make sure it works in all configurations, all languages, right-to-left layouts, it has to make sure it performs well, that it isn't slow and doesn't eat your hard disk space, it has to make sure that there aren't bugs that will corrupt your data, it has to make sure the feature is secure, that it doesn't allow a hacker to take control of your computer. An individual may or may not worry about these. In fact my addin doesn't always work for some users, it doesn't work for password protected sections, it may have performance and security issues. Also I don't really support anyone with it. If a large corporation were to deploy it and it misbehaves and causes them to lose millions of dollars, I disclaim any liability. So yes Microsoft refuses to do any of this, and this is a good thing.

You know, we aren't laying here at Microsoft since we shipped Office 2013. In fact we shipped multiple updates to Windows 8, iOS, Android apps as well as OneNote Web App at SkyDrive. Life is still a trade off here and we spend our time to where it matters most for our customers.

Yes you can choose your orientation before you print in the reader application, just like you can do with a normal printer.

Try using "Run As Administrator" to start the installer. That should give it the required rights.

Win 7 Run As Admin tips

What you need to do is "runas admin":

•         Go to the start menu and find the program icon you want to start

·      <Shift> <Right Click> on it

·      Select “Run as …”

If that doesn’t work try this:

•         In the start menu , right click on the shortcut for any Office app, select “RunAs Admin”

•         If runas does not appear, right click and drag the shortcut to the desktop

·      create a shortcut on the desktop.

·      Right click on the desktop shortcut,

·       runas admin should be there.

Activate the application/office:

·    2007 Office button  or 2010/2013 File tab

·      Help

·      Click on “Activate the Application”

·      Follow prompts to enter product key

·      Close the app

·      Restart app normally

FYI: for this situation, you can consider Vista and Win7 to be essentially interchangeable with only minor differences between the user interface in the 2 versions.

In Win7, even when you are logged in as administrator, UAC no longer gives you “Full” administrator rights. To get all of the access you now also have “run as administrator”

It appears there is an error where your userid is not being allowed to update the activation information in the registry.

The general process is :

·     Close all of the office apps

·     Start one of the Office apps using any one of the following “run as admin” techniques

·     Activate office

·     Close the app

·     Start it normally, confirm the message has “gone away”

·     If the message is gone, reboot the computer

·     Start the office app again to confirm that the message really is gone for good (was saved in the registry)
