Reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on New Computer

I have read a lot of rumors on this topic on the web and want to get a real answer before proceeding.  I purchased Microsoft Office 2013 a few months ago but never installed it.  I'd like to install it now.  However, I plan to purchase a new laptop in approximately a year.  Some of the rumors say that once you install Microsoft Office 2013, not only can you not transfer it to a new machine at a later date, but you can't even reinstall it on the same machine if you reformat the hard drive, decided to install a brand new hard drive, or something similar that changes your machine's hardware configuration.  I want to make sure that if I install Microsoft Office 2013 now that 1) I can remove it later and use the license on a new laptop (Windows 8) and 2) I can reinstall it on this same computer after reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows (most likely Windows 7) and other apps.   Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community and we are glad to assist you with your concern.

You will be able to re-install Office 2013 on the same computer if you had to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system.

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you, but not more than one time every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner). If you transfer the software to another computer, that other computer becomes the "licensed computer."

Any time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer and you may not retain any copies.

    I had to have a new hard drive put on my computer which I had Microsoft Office 2013 on. How do I reinstall Microsoft Office 2013 on that same computer with new hard drive?

    There appears to be a lot of confused people on this thread. You can transfer the license for Office 2013 from one computer to another as stated very clearly by http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/profile/c22849d2-034a-4917-a248-b7d06f61c7f4[Deepa Raj](http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/profile/c22849d2-034a-4917-a248-b7d06f61c7f4 "Deepa Raj") at the beginning of the thread. BUT you must first uninstall Office 2013 from your old computer before installing Office 2013 on the new computer.

    If your computer 'died' and you can no longer uninstall Office from your old computer you MUST contact Microsoft so that they can deactivate Office 2013 on your old computer. You can contact Microsoft by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on Contact Us
