Reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on New Computer

I have read a lot of rumors on this topic on the web and want to get a real answer before proceeding. I purchased Microsoft Office 2013 a few months ago but never installed it. I'd like to install it now. However, I plan to purchase a new laptop in approximately a year. Some of the rumors say that once you install Microsoft Office 2013, not only can you not transfer it to a new machine at a later date, but you can't even reinstall it on the same machine if you reformat the hard drive, decided to install a brand new hard drive, or something similar that changes your machine's hardware configuration. I want to make sure that if I install Microsoft Office 2013 now that 1) I can remove it later and use the license on a new laptop (Windows 8) and 2) I can reinstall it on this same computer after reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows (most likely Windows 7) and other apps. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community and we are glad to assist you with your concern.

You will be able to re-install Office 2013 on the same computer if you had to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system.

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you, but not more than one time every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner). If you transfer the software to another computer, that other computer becomes the "licensed computer."

Any time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer and you may not retain any copies.

So, I'll have to buy the Software, in Disc Form, so that I can trasfer it, to another Computer?

What happens if my Hard Drive crashes, and I'm unable to uninstall it, one the first Computer?

Planning on getting ' Office 2013 ', for upto 5 Computers. Asking this, on behalf of my Mother. It seems that if the Computer Crashes, and you do not have the Software, " in Disc Form ", that you cannot install it, on a new Hard Drive, when the one it's already installed on crashes, am I correct?

Hi! Thank you for the information. It is good to know that we can transfer the license from another computer and we can still reuse the license if we reformat our computer.

Our agency purchased Microsoft Office 2013 Standard Volume License (I was not yet around when it was purchased). So my question are as follows:
1. If we reformat/refresh/restore a Windows 8 desktop computer with an Office 2013 activated (let's say 1/250) and re-install it, will our VL count another activation (+1 = 2/250) or will it stick to 1/250?
2. Worst comes to worst scenario, our desktop with Windows 8 Professional VL and Office 2013 Standard VL both activated was damaged and nothing can be retrieved. What will happen to the license if we install both software into a new desktop. Is that considered a transfer of license or another count of activation?
If you are wondering why I'm asking this question, it's because every time a restore/refresh a Windows 8 desktop computer, the Office 2013 becomes not-activated so I have to enter the key to activate. Once done, I go to Microsoft Volume Licensing Center to check the current status of our licenses and found out that it counts another activation when in fact it was installed on the same computer.

Hoping for a detailed response. Thank you Microsoft!

Hi Deepa,

I'm hoping you can assist me. I didn't go to far into this website but I just noticed you had Microsoft Support Engineer listed under your nqme so I thought beet to go with a pro :)

I recently sent my surface (laptop) to be repaired and when this occurs all the programs and files I had on the laptop are removed.

I had a purchased copy of Office Home & Student 2013 installed on my laptop therefore after being repaired I now no longer have any of my programs, the most important to me being a uni student is Office. I tried to reinstall using the Microsoft Office directions.

I read that as I was just transferring the program from my previously damaged laptop back on to my now repaired laptop that I am able to use the same product key to download it once again.

The problem I'm having is I can't access my office account as I do not remember the email address I used when I first created my account.

I tried multiply email addressees but the system tells me each time they do not have a record for someone under that account name (email address)

Email Addresses I used included; ******@hotmail.com; ******@mymail.unisa.edu.au; ******@gmail.com, ******@icoud.com

I may have had an account under the ******@hotmail.com address but it doesn't match to the Microsoft Office I have.

My Product Key Number is FMXB6-NTW8Y-K9GC2-GVC8R-367G4

And I would have tried the disk method to reinstall Office but The Surface is not capable for DVD?CD etc.

Can you please tell me what I should do so that I can reinstall Microsoft Office, as I desperately need it as soon as possible.
