I do not want to go for too long a time without the big updates that came along with SP1 for Office that enhanced its security. I do not want to leave my system open that long. So I am going to get my C2R install up to version 15.0.4569.1507 which includes the SP for Office.

Do a little checking around and you will find out how you can do it too. You just have to refuse to be limited by the rules. :-)

Caine: you've already done the research and confirmed a method that worked for you in the real world.  How about sharing with the rest of us. Even if it is confirmation of the methods provided by Susan. That is the intent of this forum. Users sharing knowledge to help other users.

It's not thinking outside the box, it's just understanding that click to run is a 'build version' is all. This is merely how C2R works.

I was being nice by complimenting you. But it is thinking outside the box because it is not the straight line thinking that you expressed earlier when saying basically that you had no control over the update process. In fact, you can completely control the update process if you truly do understand the code. You can also get everything in an MSI update out and installed onto your computer so that you C2R version now has SP1 or whatever update you want. People are locked into thinking that just because you have a C2R install that you are dependent on that internet stream and that you cannot take that C2R version and have a standalone version that you can update on your own if you want to do so. That is linear thinking. It limits what you can do. Even programmers, who create the software are often surprised at what you can do with their work to make it so much more versatile. So you may wish to go on believing that C2R and MSI installs cannot be compatible with each other, but that would be wrong. MSI tools can be "unwrapped" and applied to local C2R installs and they work just fine. This C2R **** is just an effort to try to control what we can do with software and for anyone willing to put in the time, it can be worked around. There is a lot more detail that can be gotten into, but suffice it to say, C2R is not magic nor is it impossible to make it work with the same tools as you use for MSI installs. And in fact, what we have seen ever since this C2R idea started taking off is that it is not the rainbows and unicorns that software developers thought it would be. So you may think that it isn't outside the box thinking, but when you look at the opinions of software developers and those that just take their word for things and do not get in there and actually work directly with the code to find answers for themselves, you see that all these people are just repeating what they hear and it is true linear thinking. To come up with ways to do what they said can't be done is thinking outside the box. That doesn't matter what the code is. it has to do with what we are told we can and can't do and then finding a way to get around it.

How about since we are really going to take a turn away now to a complete new subject, we start another thread and discuss it there? Leave this for just the problem with Office right now. When I first asked, it was on-topic bcuz it was a simple question that was intended to get around this problem. But it has taken on a life of its own now and deserves a thread of its own.

Ok, well if you decide you want to do that, just let me know. i have to get up at 3:00am so I am off to bed. If you want to discuss the subject, just leave me a message and I will join you in a new thread or I will start it if you want. The point is whether or not you want to bother with it or not. I am not going to the trouble if you don't really want to get into the nuts and bolts. I love doing things like that, but most other people do not. Honestly, I already had figured out a number of ways to do what I had asked earlier. It didn't take much research. In fact, there isn't much research out there on it. So most of it a person has to figure out on their own.
