Office Home and Business 2013 is now blank under "file size" in Programs and Features following the June 11 Microsoft update.  How do I recover it?

No, I didn't ever say I installed updates to 2013, just 2010 when it was on. I had and have again the Click To Run version so I do not have a way of knowing what updates have been applied to Office. I wanted to use the MSI installer this time to re-install but the cd never gave me the option. It just automatically installed Click To Run. I have verified that I have Click To Run by going to Programs and Features and choosing Office 2013 and clicking on Change and it comes up with the orange box about repairs and not the box for the MSI version.  I ABSOLUTELY have Click To Run installed. Do you know where the logs are kept? I will email you a screen capture to prove I do not have the MSI installed version but the Click To Run. I will email you in a few minutes with that capture and whatever else you want. Just let me know what to include in the email for you.

I need you to email me at susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @) .  I then will ask for a phone number so I can set up a support case.  Microsoft then will contact you and get the log files they need typically by asking you to do a remote session or by sending you a link that installs and gathers the log files they need.   Given that I'm  honestly confused if you do or do not have click2run (one set of logs) or normal Office msi deployment (a different set), the most efficient way is for me to get you set up with a support engineer from Microsoft.

I apologize as I can't remember which way you said you had it installed?  As you indicated earlier I thought that you installed updates - which would lead me to believe you are msi installed but in the paragraph above you are referring to click2run?

No, they need log files.  They can't repro at will. Please I need your help.

In order to fix the issue they need to understand the issue.  To understand it they need to have someone open a support case.

Then tell me specifically what to do. And where do you find the logs for something like this? Tell me how you go about doing all of this and I will try it. I have never dealt with Microsoft on something like this. So tell me what to do, and remember to be specific please.

Can someone help me help Microsoft understand what's going on?

Email me at susan-at-msmvps.com  (change the -at- to @) so we can get official support cases opened?  Forum postings won't work here.  We need Microsoft to see log files.

I don't understand how we can make it any clearer. Just a brief looking over of this forum tells you everything that we know about the problem. The symptoms are weird and different for everyone. The one thing in common is that it started after the updates. If you explain what I can do to make it clearer for Microsoft I will do it to help out. I just do not see what else there is to say. And nobody in the world can convince me that they are in the complete dark and do not know about this with as many people that are being affected as there is at this time. They just haven't figured out how to fix it or maybe even do not know yet how they broke it. But like I said, I am happy to help if you just let me know what you need from me. But in reality, do you think that this monolithic company does not know what happened yesterday? One thing they need to do is go back to making it possible to have more control over updates and being able to see what updates are available, what ones you want to apply, and what ones have been applied. Just like we could do back before 2013 and the Click To Run feature. Sometimes simplifying things too much is a bad thing, especially when it takes away the ability to track down a problem and even more so when it comes to something that they will need input from the customer for in order to fix it. I understand the concept. It would be great if all we ever did was turn on our computer and everything was streamed as we wanted it, and any problem was detected by and fixed by the manufacturer. But this concept does not work too well when it is software and you have so many different  environments (hardware and software, network, user skills, etc.) that it is being used in. You just cannot provide the latest answers when you have so many different situations the problem could be found in. Until they invent completely bulletproof apps and can guarantee to stay ahead of every possible problem that might arise, then they need to shelve this Click To Run and continue to give the consumer the ability to investigate and troubleshoot on their own.

This reminds me of how automobiles went from completely mechanical machines that everyone could work on in their back yard to computerized electronic monsters that only a select few are properly trained to work on. That seems to be how we are heading in regards to our computer usage. Having less and less power to solve problems and find answers or to even troubleshoot issues seems to be where we are headed. We are being herded into a situation where we are going to become completely dependent on the manufacturer and can do nothing on our own to fix our problems like we have done in the past. This Office problem is a perfect example. Nobody knows anything or can do anything except hope until the manufacturer decides to give it some attention. It is sad really.
