Office 2013 missing after June 11 Microsoft auto upates

I just used this file O15CTRRemove.diagcab. I do not remember the URL. Just double-clicked it and ran it. When it was done I ran setup64.exe from the DVD. I have the Click To Run version. I can send you a screen shot if you give me an email address that shows the version. It is not the MSI with all the choices. it is the version that you start installing and it says you can start working immediately while it continues to install. I do not have a Product key to install the MSI version. And yes, if you buy it online and get a backup DVD, the DVD only starts the CTR install unless you get a second Product key to use for an MSI install. I did not get the 2nd Product Key which I should have done. Anyway there is the link so you can see for yourself.

All it does is remove any traces of Office from your computer. You still have to reinstall Office after it is done.

I appreciate the point about click-to-run. I still say it's sloppy and inefficient. And it hides information and processes from technical people like me. It's sofware-as-a-service forced on people who didn't want to buy it. The whole point of buying 2013 "preinstalled" on a new PC (instead of 365) is that it was NOT SaaS.

Uninstall the Windows upgrades from 6/11/2014.  Then do the fix.  It worked for me.

I don't know which Windows Update caused the issue. I guess I honestly don't know IF Windows Update caused the issue, since apparently Microsoft decided it was a good idea to hide the Office update process under the banner of "click to run." Maybe there was a secret Office update that caused the problem. Maybe it was a combination of the two. All I know is what I saw on 3 separate computers (and what a few hundred other people have reported in this thread and others like it). Office was working fine, MS put out a batch of Windows updates (2957689, 2939576, 2957189, 2957503, 2957509, 2965788, 2800095, and 890830) on Patch Tuesday this week which initiated a reboot. After that reboot, no Office programs would launch. They all gave the same generic error message "Something went wrong, couldn't start your program, please try again, please try a repair." Both the quick repair and the online repair failed. System restore to the point created immediately before these updates did not help. Restoring to a point farther back in time might allow you to run an online repair. Failing that the official MS response in these threads is to uninstall (manually or with the Fix-it) and redownload/reinstall.

And that's where my issue lies. Yes, I want to get things going as fast as possible for productivity's sake. But when I have to kick a user off their computer for a couple hours while I re-download the entire Office suite, it kills their productivity and mine. I have 49 Win7/Office 13 computers under my control and so far 3 of them have this bug. I've fixed two. The other is in California (I'm in Ohio). They don't have admin rights and their connection is so slow that it will literally be faster to have them ship me their computer so I can do the reinstall and ship it back.

Susan has offered to help set up a support case, and that's awesome. If I get another broken one I will probably go that route. What I'm hoping to find is there's a quicker and easier fix (go here, delete this file, rename this file, tweak this registry key, hey look at that Office works again WITHOUT having to do a reinstall.)

That is my exact point. You do not have to wait for the entire install for them to start working. With Click To Run you can use whatever program or feature you want and it is streamed immediately and the rest of the install goes on while you work. I understand taking care of a lot of machines, believe me. In this case the crashes came right after the Windows updates and Office updates for June were applied. And the Windows updates are still on the computers I have gotten running again. I just turned off the Office update. That is why I believe it is in the Office update for June which was applied at the same time as the Windows updates. The Office update added dozens of new files to Office but when you clean Office from the computer and reinstall they are gone while the Windows updates are still there. So since the reinstall is working, this tells me that it has to do with one or more files that were applied by the OFFICE update and not the Windows update. I am going to post a list of the new files that were put on your machine by the June OFFICE update. Of course it depends on your Office version and how it is configured when it comes to which files it put on your machine. But at least it is a starting point and you can see what it did to your machine.
