No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

...Keep this up and more folks will jump ship.  A shame, since OneNote was that good.

I started jumping ship with Win8... moved to Mac.

Then with OneNote for Mac I moved to Outline.

Now I use OpenOffice instead of Ms Office.

Couldn't be happier to be free of all Ms apps.

Next step is to cut ties with Adobe and their subscription only apps.

Thanks for the feedback and in the free version of OneNote for Mac it only syncs to the cloud as you see.  Why don't you have your files in the cloud?  Without doing this you all cannot use your notes on other devices.  And the team is looking to add Office 365 & SharePoint sync for work users who cannot sync to OneDrive; right now it was more consumer focused.

As for local files there isn't yet a way to upload them to OneDrive yet, do you have a bunch of old files that you don't have open in OneNote that you can't upload?

I downloaded Mac Office 2016 via my subscription and it still wants to do everything through OneDrive.  Other folks have voiced their reasons for not being limited to a *single* cloud service better than I could, though I have the same concerns (confidential Info, HIPAA, etc.).  MS needs to fix this, especially for the paying customers.  Word and Access teams also deserve a flogging for the damage they are doing to their products as well.  Keep this up and more folks will jump ship.  A shame, since OneNote was that good.

We need local and better SharePoint support....  I wonder what it would take for Microsoft to build OneNote and the rest of their Office Suite so that is forward consistent across both OS's.

It's unfortunate that Microsoft cannot understand that there are circumstances which a person or company will not risk saving documents to the cloud, such as, research, competitive data, etc. I use Office365 for the PC at work and I've needed IT support almost everyday. It' nothing to look forward to.

I have been using OneNote for years on a PC because of its great features one being that it was local on my PC. It was a great tool to use while studying for a Master's. So i was delighted to see it offered for the Mac which I am transitioning too as it is easier on the eyes. That said, other than OneNote, I have dumped all Microsoft products and I am using OpenOffice as I found the lack of features I used extensively not available in the Mac Office version.

I recently tried OneNote, and like the rest of Microsoft for Mac, it is extremely disappointing and I may dump it also as even basic features found in the PC version are not found on the Mac version.

Without meaning to be insulting, I find your understanding of workplace needs to be less than adequate. It was pointed out to you that storing corporate documents on a third party cloud, yet you persisted in offering that as a solution when it was not an option under the circumstances!

Here is another reason for not using the Cloud, it requires BANDWIDTH. The constant syncing to the Cloud is making my connection so slow as to not be usable. Of course, there is no way to turn the syncing off as the work is not stored locally, so this Mac OneNote must constantly be communicating with the Cloud to work.

Are you guys so short sighted now that you think the world has adequate access to the Cloud?? I live in the Arctic and all internet and communication is over satellite, so bandwidth is limited and caped, so I am not even sure that I can use OneNote Mac in the North without going to the poorhouse!

Please try to think outside of your regional box and realize that not everyone is in the Cloud yet. When moving a product like Office to the Mac, leave the features as is and make them work on the Mac rather than offering a stripped down version that does not do the job.

I really hope this helps you Marguerite. I posted a much longer rant, elsewhere, but,  heres the meat of it

"The solution I have found is to use VMware FUSION and Install Windows AND Office into the Virtual Machine. Albeit, you don't have to run ALL office products, just Onenote". 

"It runs smoothly on a 2009 Intel 21:9 Mac, so i assume it would not skip a beat on a newer model. There is other VMware software such as Virtual Box (*FREE*), but personally FUSION seems the most aesthetic and easy to use solution for me". 

"This of course, isn't optimal, but it does give me access to my Onenote Workbooks offline with MAC".

When I am done editing my Workbook (either on the pc or mac), i just copy and paste the workbook either into the relevant PC or Mac stored location (i.e. Documents/Onenote) and only 'merge' what i have changed. (i.e. Skip exact files).
