No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I am using OneNote on my Windows PCs and Outline on my Macs. In that way I can use locally stored  NoteBooks. I synchronize between the Mac and the PC using the GoodSync applications. In that way no part of my business files are stored on a public cloud storage.

The problem with this setup is that I cannot sync my key notebooks with my iOS devices. My company's policy prohibits placing company data on non-secure / non encrypted public cloud storage.

For my private notebooks, I use also local files, but I am synchronizing these local files via the secure and encrypted (zero knowledge) cloud storage of Wuala. 

Alternatively I also used BoxCryptor on top of OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, and Dropbox. It adds an encryption layer for public cloud storage. Quite a good solution but not as seamless and painless like Wuala.

Using OneNote on the Mac, Windows and iOS devices would provide the best functionality and user experience but before I move my notes to OneDrive, Microsoft must upgrade either OneDrive or OneNote (or preferably both) in the following way:

1. Change OneNote on Windows, Mac and iOS to allow encryption with a password of a complete notebook. I will never 'trust 'any document to a cloud store that is not encrypted. I don't want Microsoft employees, competitors, or NSA to read my notebooks if they get access to the Microsoft Cloud. Currently only individual section can be protected with a password. While that helps for certain single sections it is not user friendly at all. 
2. Change OneDrive from an unencrypted file store to a zero-knowledge-encryption file store like the one of Wuala. It is my data and no one must have the technically possibility to read it. I have no problem if NSA wants to decrypt my notebooks by brute force using their massive resources - I am not afraid of NSA reading it and keeping the information to themselves, but I am afraid of competitors and other hostile parties.

in the Outline camp that make it more attractive right now. And they seem to be following a steady, if a little slow, development path that looks like it's going to give us things that MS probably never will.

I've been an Outline user for quite awhile now.  I agree that the development has been a bit slow but at least each update has been significantly better than the previous release.  And, it seems like they actually listen to their users.

Microsoft, on the other hand, doesn't.  Or maybe they do but they choose not to act on what they hear.  I don't blame them though.  Their mandate is clear.  Microsoft will be a cloud company.

Local storage for One Note?  That's the exact opposite of the direction MS is going.  So we all just need to accept the fact that it's never going to happen.

When I was a Windows user, I REALLY liked One Note.  I'm disappointed with how things are now but I'm satisfied with Outline.  I highly recommend that everyone just abandon One Note and go with Outline.

I see this as a win-win for both companies.  Outline will (hopefully) have more funds to speed up the development.  And Microsoft will be able to ignore One Note and focus on what it is they really want to do  (they're probably doing that already anyway).

It is very difficult to consider using the new deployment of OneNote for Mac when there is no way to access your existing work. Having to redo your work is not acceptable. You would think it would be in your best interest to help users step forward into this platform and not start over.

The MS recommended way is to use a PC with Onenote to pass your local data over to the cloud. This is plainly a foolish suggestion - the shear inconvenience, Mac user may not own a PC ..... etc -  that shows MS really don't get it. I finally did it using Outline, then figured Outline was just as good, if not better, than Onenote and stuck with it. They both fall short of the PC version in many ways and as each release new versions they play leap-frog with each other on features and usefulness but there are restrictive attitudes at MS that don't exist in the Outline camp that make it more attractive right now. Any chance OneNote will support local storage and SharePoint?  We have corporate SharePoint servers but even the latest incarnation wont connect to it even though the new feature is that it works with corporate SharePoint...

I tried specifying the URL for the folder containing the notes, the URL for the Open OneNote.onetoc2... All no go..

Would be nice if OneNote was compatible with Microsoft products.
