No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I really appreciate that OneNote has at last arrived for Mac and because of that I finally relented and bought a Macbook Air.  I want to thank the MS team because I can see that you all are pushing out improvements on a regular basis.

I too am really having a hard time with the loss of functionality and the hassles of having to store all my work on OneDrive. I am not averse to using cloud-based storage, but i don't like being forced to use OneDrive which just feels clunky.  I much prefer Dropbox but as others have said, I'd like to have the option to choose.

In terms of beloved features I am really missing, its the clipping tool. I use it ALL the time on my PC.  I  know you added a clipping function, but it doesn't let me grab a screen shot and put it into the page I am working on and add notations NOW.  The whole log in to OneDrive, find the page, move it to the right notebook deal is just too much work and I still don't have the CLIP I want, i have the whole page.  It's really a huge loss, so I hope that this is something you all can upgrade soon. 

Anyway I know you all are getting mostly complaints, and want to let you know its only because we love OneNote so much that we feel the pain when we can't work in the usual efficient way we are used to.  So I want of pass a little of the love along too.

And finally ... how do I back up my Onenote notebooks? Experience shows that cloud storage is fairly safe, cloud services rarely actually lose data but what about user error? What if I accidentally delete a section or a notebook, how do I get that back? Without backup my data is inherently unsafe.

I'm replying to this thread because of your snug and pompous attitude. I've had it with people from Microsoft ignoring issues - you guys put out some of the worst software and you get away with it because there is no real competition. One day someone is going to rival you in the office suite of things and that day is going to be great. 

"Why don't you have your file in the cloud" is not the question you are asking, the question you are asking is why don't we store our OneNote files on Microsoft's cloud. Well for once, maybe the file holds sensitive data and we want to maintain ownership and positive control over the media in question. We all know anytime a central database is setup to hold everyone's information for convenience that it becomes a target for hackers to attack. That's one reason. Want some more or can you trust me to do what's right with my data?

Here's some feedback for you - currently the Windows version of OneNote works just fine anywhere you store the file. You can store it on the intranet or the internet and with the right setup or service it works fine and supports multiple people editing the file at once. My company happens to use it extensively for sharing working tasks throughout the day.

The Mac edition of the software cannot open a .onetoc file apparently. It can't be pointed to a onenote file that exists at a external location. 

Here is the knife in the back - we are using Microsoft SharePoint to host the OneNote document so people need to authenticate through our Windows Server to even open the file. Do you see the irony in the fact that we are using your Enterprise Content Management System for what it was designed to do, and you have built a software program that is incapable of accessing files from the ECMS? That's **** gold man!

The list of missing features keeps growing...

• No drawing support on ipad
• cant resize or move boxes on ipad
• no local file support on mac
• cant hide authors on mac

I would rather have waited for a full versions than deal with these half **** limited functionality versions.

This is my final straw... wish me luck with evernote!
