Office 2010 Service Pack 2 install fails

All very interesting;

None of the PC's here have Office 2010 sp2 offered/available via windows update.

There is a direct download from MS site/downloads

The MS statement was that Office sp2 would not be released via windows update until 90 days had elapsed from its release on the MS Downloads site.

Perhaps they need to resolve the gotchas before its pushed out via windows/MS Update

2010 SP2 showed up in my Updates as an unchecked important update 2 days ago. I noticed when applying Windows Defender updates.

I'll wait a while longer till some issues are resolved.

Yes, that would be the decent thing for Microsoft to do.  Make sure updates are thoroughly tested (emphasize thoroughly) before releasing them to the general public.  Maybe they should mandate that all of their employees having Office 2010 must download SP-2; half from the Update site and half from the Download site.  Then, there would be a must better chance for success by "regular users."  What with the nasty Windows-8 situation, Microsoft can hardly afford another needless goof.

I recently tried to install the KB2687455 ( Office 2010 SP2 update ) and it failed with error code

8024002d . This error seems to indicate that it can't find some needed file. I have 4 other systems that all worked successfully. I noticed that this system had an empty MSOCACHE directory while the

working systems had installation files. I copied the MSOCACHE Directory from one of the successful

systems and the update succeeded. Looks like that was the files update was looking for !

I had previously tried the update with the original installation DVD installed but that did not work.

But in my case the SP2 update will install. It is just outlook that will not run after the install. All other office programs will work. The only dialog msg I get is Outlook stopped working. It offers to repair or go into safe mode. None of this makes a difference. The only way I can get outlook to run is to uninstall SP2.

"I am also having a problem with the SP2 update. I am running win8/office2010 x64. I can download the update without a problem. Either by windows update or file down load. It will install without a problem. All of the office products will work except for outlook. When I start outlook I get an error dialog that says outlook will not start. I have done repair, safe mode, uninstall office, use fixit to completely remove, reboot 1000 times. If I install the SP2 update outlook fails, if I uninstall the SP2 update it works. I have also downloaded the SP2 update, disconnected from the web, turned off all Antivirus installed the update and outlook fails to start.  Uninstalled the update and it works. This is where I am at now. Any ideas?"
