Office 2010 Service Pack 2 install fails

had same problem too with 64bit, feeling hundres are affected. I'm really pissed with being invited to download hundreds of mb for nothing.... now I really hate microsoft and they already crapped office. so the only way out is to erase office once forever, turning to google (for the same price of office they give you something like a TB of storage with intelligent search, not a bunch of demential/useless buttons you cannot print a file straightaway.....

It is becoming very obvious that Microsoft released a Service Pack WAY before it was really ready to be installed by the user community.  The range of error codes, "iffy" installs, and other miscellaneous problems clearly indicate untested software.  Or, at least a very perfunctory test bed to see if the install would even work.  With the huge problems facing Microsoft with its debacle of Windows-8, one would thing (expect) that a service pack would be very well tested before being released.  As suggested earlier...make all MS employees using Office 2010 install SP-2 on their own home/office machines before releasing it to the general (unsuspecting) public.

I also had a nasty experience, made worse with the about 350MB download required.   I am running Office 2010 32-bit on two computers--one is Windows-7 32 bit and one is Windows-7 64-bit.

I downloaded the Office 32 bit file from the MS download site onto my 64-bit machine, and burned it onto a CD as a backup.  The CD file did install and update my Office 2010 on my Windows-7 32-bit machine.  The same CD file did NOT install on my Windows-7 64-bit machine.  I tried using the file original downloaded onto the 64-bit machine.  Failure, again.  In desperation, I used MS's Update mechanism to automatically download SP2 and install it.  It worked.

Why did the update work for my 64-bit machine via the MS update path, but did not work via the MS download path?  [Am I correct that the two files for Office 2010--32-bit and 64-bit refers to the version of Office 2010 and NOT to the version of Windows-7 being used?]

This type of situation should never happen.  Both update paths--MS auto update and MS download update should generate identical files and therefore work identically; especially since one wants to make a CD copy of the SP as a backup.

Same here, I regret to have to say. Office 2010.

I downloaded SP2 - all 600 MB of it - so that I wouldn't have to download it multiple times for my multiple machines, and it seemed to install successfully and reboot.

Whether it IS installed is not obvious: Word vn. 14.0.7015.1000 (32-bit). Is that RTM, SP1 or SP2?

Further, Window Update is still reporting that SP2 KB2687455 needs to be installed. Machine has been rebooted since the download update.

'Installed Updates' shows KB2687455 in the list of Office 2010 updates.

They can't get this right yet...?

Just want to find a solution; did come across a page with known issues for SP 2 installation.  Downloaded the fix for that but it won't install due to "insufficient space" - hard to believe with a 1TB hard drive.  This is the only Microsoft service pack to fail to install on one of my machines.
