Google Drive now supported in Word for iPad?

So Word for iPad's latest update allows integration with Google Drive, but I can't get it to work.

I checked in 'Add a place' - I can select OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Dropbox or Sharepoint, but no sign of (Google) Drive.

Under ". . . more" , and "Locations" there's a slide button to select Google Drive, but I can't see any effect.  Even with this switched on, Drive doesn't appear under any of the menus.

Is this a bug?

    This thread's been here for two and a half years now, Microsoft.

    Seriously... it *looks* like the app should work with Google Drive, but it's just not showing as an option.

    You acknowledge that there is valuable demand for Word/Office on iOS by going to the trouble of making the app, but are you then blocking out Google Drive because it's treading uncomfortably on your toes? Make it work and there'd be a bunch less people considering moving wholesale to Google Docs and dropping Office altogether!

    Yes I agree, when I try to save a copy using the "File --> Save a copy --> then choose my google drive location" it saves, but when opened it is a 0kB blank document.  However I can save a copy to Google drive by instead clicking the button on the top right (person with + sign) then select send a copy --> send with another app --> then I choose google drive. Unfortunately this does not solve the dilemma of seamlessly opening a document from drive editing it and then saving it back to the original file destination...

    Here's how to open MS Office files on your iPad (adding a service does not work).

    1. Open the MS Office app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    2. Select Open > More > Locations > Google Drive
    3. Select your account and you're in

    Ridiculous this is so buried...

    Just wanted to comment that it is working for me.

    iPad 12 inch runing iOS 9.2.1

    Word version 1.24

    Google drive version 4.13.163208

    Word is syncing with my google drive account automatically without a work around.
