Office 2010 activation fails after SP2 with error 0x80070190

Windows 7 Pro, Office 2010 Pro Plus

I put Office 2010 SP2 on three identically configured machines this morning.  Two of them had previously had Office 2010 activated, the third had not yet been activated.  After SP2 was installed, the two machines with previously-activated versions of Office 2010 continue to work correctly;  the third machine demands that I activate Office - the process appears to run, but then fails with error code 0x80070190.

An initial call to Support yielded a request for me to install Hotfix for Windows KB947821.  That installed correctly, but did not fix the problem.  Before I call back, I thought I would put something out here to see if others have come across this problem.

A Google search on the error code keeps coming up with information implying that this may be related to a Beta status in Office 2010.  Is it possible that today's release of SP2 was not final code?

Aha!

I tried using the cscript cmd line process described elsewhere in this thread, and got a new error:

Last 5 characters of installed product key: XXXXX (they matched my MAK key, so the correct product key is already in place)

ERROR CODE: 0xC004F025

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Software Licensing Service reported that the action requires administrator privilege.

So apparently UAC is getting in the way.

Which FIXED THE PROBLEM!

The remaining question is, Why is UAC suddenly putting itself in charge of activation *after* SP2 when it did not appear to get involved previously?  I made no changes to UAC on any of the machines where SP2 was installed;  I try to avoid touching UAC as much as possible.

    So I have had this happen on the last two machines I built.

    The first one received its SP2 update via Windows Updates.

    The second one I installed after slipstreaming Office 2010 to SP2.

    Both had this problem.

    The first one, I simply contacted MS and activated over the phone.

    With it happening again, I decided to see if folks are  having a problem with the SP2 upgrade.

    That brings me here.

    So after reading this far into the thread, I decided PaulNSW's solution sounded pretty eazy peazy.

    It worked!

    I will have a couple more to build in the next week or two, so I will check out El_Tex_de_Person's suggestion, as that sounds quicker still.

    Good thing I held on to a copy of my pre SP2 slipstream office install.

    After reading through all the replies, making it to the last one who had an issue with UAC, I tried one little, simple thing.

    Hold Shift, right-click the Outlook icon, then "run as administrator". When the prompt to activate it online comes up, click "Next", and it might work. I also had the 80070190 error, and rolling back to SP1 did nothing (and I really didn't feel like uninstalling the whole suite, playing around in the registry, running scripts, etc.).

    Hopefully this helps others, as I have also started deploying images with SP2 installed, and was ready to recreate an image that only has SP1, then run updates after every image...which can also be time consuming.

    Same problem here, solved thanks to this thread.

    My Windows 7 and Office 2010 were both fully updated a few days ago, Office 2010 SP2 was installed at that time too.

    Today I upgraded my PC (=replaced everything, only system hard disk was left), after upgrade windows and office wanted to activate again (of course since I replaced too many components).

    Windows activated without problems, Office threw that 0x80070190 error.

    After reading this thread, I tried running Excel with admin privileges and it activated successfully on first try
