Office 2013 error message “Something went wrong. Sorry, we ran into a problem. Go online for additional help. Error Code 30088-4”

I have been (unsuccessfully) trying to install Office onto this laptop for over a year.  I purchased Office through my employer's HUP.  When I tried a year ago, here's how far I got:

1. purchased software
2. downloaded
3. started to run installation and....

Windows crashed.  So, I tried to re-install.  Error. Tried to uninstall. Nothing. Deleted the install file and re-downloaded.  Nothing.  Tried to "uninstall" (per support instructions), which didn't make any sense since it never installed properly in the first place.  Nothing.  Two weeks and never found a resolution. Gave up and went back to working off of Office on my old laptop.

Then, today, my employer sends out a new HUP message and I thought, well, I'll try this again!  This is how far I got tonight:

1. purchased software (AGAIN!!)
2. downloaded
3. started to run installation and...

Yep, it crashed about 8% into the process, giving me this error message:

Yes, I clicked on the link. The FAQs there do not answer my questions.  I cannot use the "Fix this" link suggest in this post - nothing happens when I click on it.  I can't uninstall - the darn thing was never installed properly in the first place!  So, I would really like a REAL solution, or my money back.  This is ridiculous.  I'm using Office 97 on my old laptop...argh.

Did you purchase a retail copy of Office 2013 or Office 365 Home subscription?

Are you finding the same error message when you try to install Office on the computer?

Did you try any steps to resolve this issue?

I am getting the error, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we ran into a problem. Go online for additional help. 30088-4” when trying to install Office 2013. What should I do?

What is MS doing? Letting people find there way through Forums? I never had this before when Office was available through a CD.

The update that ran this weekend: not only did it disable my Office 365 University, but it also rendered my laptop unusable. After 2 days of rebooting into safe mode and troubleshooting, I found that my computer works fine IF I disable the service "Microsoft Office Click-To-Run". However, doing that means that I cannot access repair or change Office 365 in the control panel- it does nothing and just does not open or run anything.

This update ALSO removed all my restore points! I have had so many problems with Windows Updates, and it causes me to have to do a restore. The last restore I did was in March 2014, and I had numerous restore points at that time; WHERE DID THEY GO???  I can't do the "Fix-it" and do a re-install-  I temporarily do not have access to my Office code; does this mean that I have to go without Office for two weeks until I can get to the code?

This really is unacceptable.
