Hi,

I constantly show a very high CPU usage on the CSISYNCCLIENT.EXE process (MS Office Document Cache Sync Client Interface). This is very frustrating and slowing down things on my laptop.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Pls help.

I managed to narrow it down to OneDrive that was causing the issue. After reading Millewa's post I hunted down a way to delete the cache, and so far so good.  Fingers crossed as this has been dragging out over a few days now.

I followed these steps to delete the cache (yes - I know its for SkyDrive but it still worked)

To clear your cache, close all your Office processes like groove.exe (which is SkyDrive Pro), msouc.exe, msosync.exe, office library sync,

Browse to “C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\Spw” and delete all the content. (You will see that this is all related to groove and spw = SharePoint Workspace).

Next, go to “C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache” and also delete all content from this folder. This is where all the caching from your files are stored.

After you deleted everything, you should be able to start SkyDrive Pro again (using “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\GROOVE.EXE“).

Good luck! I will re post if it starts playing up again :|

Hi all,

I just suffer the same issue with my original surface pro 128G (win8.1)

I check the task manager which show a lots of CSISYN~1.exe execute in background and CPU usage is 100%.

I try to dig out some solution by google and short summary as below.

1.Unchecked****the option "Use Office to sync files faster and work on files" in onedrive( sky drive)

But it didn't work for me due to I even cannot find the setting option in my onedrive setting.

2. Removal/reinstall the office 2013 or office 365.

It work but when I re-install the office, the issue come back again.

3. Removal the skydirive or onedirve app/ program

As you known, the ondrive is default app in win8.1. however, I still find a skydirve program in programs and features of control panel.

Therefore, I try to uninstall and remove it. -----> it work. no more CSISYN~1.exe abnormal execute in background and everything normal.

For you all reference.

Thanks

Arthur

Dear All,

I actually worked with a second-level Microsoft technician today (for about four hours, via phone and LogMeIn), and the problem was actually solved. The cache used by OneDrive (MSO cache) was corrupted. The installation of Office 365 was completely removed, and a clean install then worked. I was not following all the details as the technician worked on the computer via LogMeIn, but I can say that in my particular case, the Csisyncclient.exe problem resulted from a corrupted cache.

Hi after having this problem for well over a year, I finally discovered that it was caused by a bug that Microsoft shipped out in an update. Take a look at this post copied from this thread...

If you are still having this problem can you contact Andrew Tischaefer directly!

CSISYNCCLIENT.exe keeps crashing repeatedly & causing WER to burn the disk

Hello and thank you for the report.

I can't speak to the specific issue that started this thread back in 2013, except to say that we do pay attention to these reports and actively work on investigating and resolving problems with the CSISyncClient, which as many have guessed is one of the components that Office uses the coordinate sync with the OneDrive application.

What I do want to talk about is the more recent addendums to this post, starting in May 2015.

In the May 2015 update for Office 2013 and Office 365, we shipped a bug in this component that caused significant crashing and, for some users, CPU spikes.  The bug was related to specific update cases and we are updating our test procedures to ensure future issues like it do not get past us.

We did proactively make some posts on Answers so that people that hit this problem could search and self-help.  This thread was missed.  For that, I can only apologize.

We resolved this crash as part of the June update, which shipped a couple of weeks ago.  I strongly encourage those of you who are still experiencing this problem to update to the latest version per these instructions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/office-2013-365-update?wa=wsignin1.0

Thank you for your business and again, sorry for any inconvenience.

Hopefully this will put the CSISyncClient problem to bed, once and for all!

    Thank you, Peter Creed.

I had the CSISyncClient problem with high CPU usage on my older PC running Windows 8 with OneDrive and Office 365.

If you've jumped to the end of this thread hoping to find a quick solution, you're in luck. Here it is.

I read through all six pages of this forum thread and found two things that were useful. Especially the post from Andy Tischaefer, the Microsoft Office engineering manager, highlighted above.

**1. Follow the instructions posted earlier in this thread to Repair an Office Application:**https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b?CorrelationId=1d0461ef-7a4b-4825-af95-604081222eb9&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US. IMPORTANT: Choose the Online Repair option. EVEN MORE IMPORTANT: PLEASE BE PATIENT and let the Online Repair complete without giving up. It takes some time and you may think the repair has stopped or frozen because the progress bar doesn't move, but it is indeed chugging away. My Online Repair took about an hour to complete on a high-speed internet connection. YMMV.

    2. After repairing your Office installation, follow the instructions above to make sure you have the latest updates to your Office apps installed, i.e., open MS Word, find and click the Office Updates button and download the latest update if you need it. If your Office installation is already up to date (like mine was), you should be good to go.

After following these two simple steps, my CPU process dropped from 100% to around 20-30%, and memory use dropped to around 60-65%. At the moment, my Firefox browser is using the most CPU percentage and memory of any running programs and processes.

Try these steps and let this forum thread know if it worked for you as it did for me.
