I just bought a subscription to Office 365 and entered my email and password for my Microsoft account and the program is telling me that it doesn't recognize that account, which is the only MS account I have and so definitely the one that I used to install the program for the trial period.

I just bought a subscription to Office 365 and entered my email and password for my Microsoft account and the program is telling me that it doesn't recognize that account, which is the only MS account I have and so definitely the one that I used to install the program for the trial period.

I've got it!!! I figured it out!

SO, Microsoft and it's password security gives you a random password for all of your Mac Apps. I have no clue why. So this means that it will not accept your usual password when registering applications such as Microsoft products; you need an "App Password." BUT I figured out that if you use this app password with your Microsoft email instead of your usual account password, it is successful!

First, log onto your Microsoft account, go to the security & password tab. Scroll down to App passwords. You can create a new one to get one to solve this problem. Copy and paste!

Thanks, but no thanks, Microsoft Support.

Same problem here.  I activated a monthly subscription and installed on 3 different computers without a problem.  I can sign into my account with a problem to get to the pages with the various apps and my name appears in the upper gith hand corner. I can use the apps (word, powerpoint, etc) but it prompts me to sign in to get all the benefits within word or powerpoint.  However, when I try to sign in within the app (word or powerpoint) at the upper right hand corner it asked me for my email address which it accepted and then a second page asked me for my password.  It would not take it and said that:

We are unable to sign you in

There is a problem with your Microsoft account.  To fix this, log into account.live.com from a browser

I did so and I am logged in no problem.  I changed my password 3 times but no go.  It is definitely not my password as I can use it to log into the entry portion of the account without any difficulty, it is only within the individual apps that I cannot sign in.
