Microsoft Office Upload Center cache constantly needs repair

I originally posted this in Office365 as that was the forum I was sent to from my Administrator panel. However, they have said to post here instead. So here goes.

Since a few days ago (around the time I installed Lync Basic instead of Lync 2010), the Microsoft Office Upload Center constantly needs repair. I have deleted the caches in User/App Data/Local/Microsoft/Office/14.0/OfficeFileCache and also /15/OfficeFileCache

It is the one in /15.0 that is the issue (now up to OfficeFileCache - 10.old).

When I try the repair option, it says something is accessing the cache and please close all Office apps. Even if there is no Office app running. I stopped Lync automaticallly starting, rebooted and still the same. I have to close in the systray SkyDrivePro and SkyDrive and then the Repair can continue. Then the error is cleared.

I can leave it for 10 minutes and the Upload Centre icon sits in the systray quite happliy. Until I open Windows Explorer and click on the SkyDrivePro icon, I can see my SkyDrivePro files in Explorer as normal with the green ticks, the SkyDrivePro icon in systray says it's up to date (nothing being processed) and then the Office Upload Center error comes back.

"The Microsoft Office Document Cache encountered a problem and needs to be repaired."

I have Office 2010 on the desktop and Office365 as my company's main work environment.

I'm baffled. How can I stop this happening? Thanks.

also

I have Office 2010 on my desktop and Office365 as the work environment as stated above. The only Office 2013 components are SkyDrivePro (which used to work fine without these cache issues) and Lync (just installed via Office365 as instructed by the Office365 site to upgrade the Lync2010 I used to have which worked fine).

You guys might want to look at this reply in another forum:

I am on a home peer to peer network with office 2013 so it may not be a solution if you are on a corporate domain but the solution suggested solved all my problems, including the corrupted cache that you are discussing.

Bottom line, at least in my case there is a scenario in which it always work without problems, which is when no "Click-to-run" component is installed in the system. That is, even installing Lync through Office 365 (which by default gives you c2r) kills it. So if you use lync you need the msi version (here)

    ...

Bye bye SkydrivePro, until Microsoft sorts the mess they've got with two different versions of Office that can't get well together.

Although I am no technical expert (otoh my experience does go back to CP/M and the days when DOS fitted on a floppy), this does make sense. I dod not keep a log but both myself and my colleagues had working SkyDrive Pro and it only went TU when the Lync Basic was installed from Office 365. My other two colleagues who have not installed Lync Basic but stuck with the Lync 2010 do not have the problem at all.

I reported this faithfully over several days with the Microsoft Support person but it did not fit his script so we went through the cache/SkyDrive pro/ininstall / repair loop for days. Last week I sent him the MOSDAL logs he wanted but have had no response from them at all.

If anything happens, I'll post an update but not totally impressed ATM.

    Cheers

    Here the solutions I found.

    Office2010/windows7(8):

    • go to control panel, programs, select lync 2013 or skydrive pro 2013, click "change", select "add/remove features", deselect (exclude from setup) "Microsoft Sharepoint foundation support", click next.
    • go to control panel, programs, select office 2010, click "change" and restore.
    • restart PC

    Office2013/windows8:

    • go to control panel, programs, select lync 2013 or skydrive pro 2013, click "change", select "add/remove features", select (include into setup) "Microsoft Sharepoint foundation support", click next (mine was excluded, dont know why).
    • go to controla panel, programs, select office 2013, click "change" and restore online.
    • restart PC

    Obviously:

    • Internet explorer 9/10 32bit or firefox 32bit
    • in IE add *.sharepoint.com, *.microsoftonline.com in trusted sites
    • protection levels in IE set to Medium
    • WebClient Service has to be started (automatic at windows startup)
    • Legal software

    I hope this helps,

    Andrea

Good suggestions, but that didn't work for me (Windows 8, Office 2013)

However, that led me to take a look at what other features are available in the Add/Remove section of SkyDrive Pro. A promising-looking one which was not installed is Microsoft Office Download Control under Office Shared Feautres.

I included that, along with Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Support as you suggest, and SkyDrive Pro seems to be working again. Probably too soon to say for sure, but worth a go.

    Same problem here!

    Windows 7 Office 2010.

Tried all workarounds, now Microsoft office upload center shows error warning and crashes when I try to delete cached files. Skydrive pro will not run.
