Microsoft Office Upload Center cache constantly needs repair

I originally posted this in Office365 as that was the forum I was sent to from my Administrator panel. However, they have said to post here instead. So here goes.

Since a few days ago (around the time I installed Lync Basic instead of Lync 2010), the Microsoft Office Upload Center constantly needs repair. I have deleted the caches in User/App Data/Local/Microsoft/Office/14.0/OfficeFileCache and also /15/OfficeFileCache

It is the one in /15.0 that is the issue (now up to OfficeFileCache - 10.old).

When I try the repair option, it says something is accessing the cache and please close all Office apps. Even if there is no Office app running. I stopped Lync automaticallly starting, rebooted and still the same. I have to close in the systray SkyDrivePro and SkyDrive and then the Repair can continue. Then the error is cleared.

I can leave it for 10 minutes and the Upload Centre icon sits in the systray quite happliy. Until I open Windows Explorer and click on the SkyDrivePro icon, I can see my SkyDrivePro files in Explorer as normal with the green ticks, the SkyDrivePro icon in systray says it's up to date (nothing being processed) and then the Office Upload Center error comes back.

"The Microsoft Office Document Cache encountered a problem and needs to be repaired."

I have Office 2010 on the desktop and Office365 as my company's main work environment.

I'm baffled. How can I stop this happening? Thanks.

also

I have Office 2010 on my desktop and Office365 as the work environment as stated above. The only Office 2013 components are SkyDrivePro (which used to work fine without these cache issues) and Lync (just installed via Office365 as instructed by the Office365 site to upgrade the Lync2010 I used to have which worked fine).

You guys might want to look at this reply in another forum:

I am on a home peer to peer network with office 2013 so it may not be a solution if you are on a corporate domain but the solution suggested solved all my problems, including the corrupted cache that you are discussing.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately they brought no joy for me.

The dreaded document cache error presented itself to some of my clients during the last week and I have tried everything suggested in this thread with no luck.

    My findings:

    • It only seems to affect PC's with the Office 365 Home Premium C2R installation and the standalone installation of SkyDrive Pro.
    • The Upload Center works correctly until I add a library to SkyDrive Pro. Seconds after the library is added the error presents itself. Removing the library and repairing the cache solves the problem (redering SkyDrive Pro useless).
    • PC's in the same location with Office 2013 ProPlus do not suffer from this problem.

I really hope that Microsoft presents a solution to this issue quickly, because it is a super inconvence and a massive waste of time.

I am too scared to even contact Office 365 support because I know exactly what they'll make me do and none of it will work.

Unfortunately this means that I will not be rolling out any further Office 365 SharePoint installations until the issue is resolved.

Thanks for the suggestion, but at least in my configuration:

    • Click to run Office 2013 (installed through Office 365 Home Premium subscription in English)
    • Japanese Win7 OS
    • Standalone msi skydrive Pro

It didn't work. I still gave it a try though, just in case.

For me at least, the choice remains:

    • Not using click to run (from Office 365) Office 2013
    • Not using Skydrive Pro desktop app.

For all those having problems, uninstalling Skydrive Pro should instantly "solve it".

Yet again I'm surprised some people have problems with Office 2010 and SkydrivePro, since I have seen no problems at all in several other PC's which had Office 2007 & Office 2010 only.

Just to be sure, if you are using Lync & SkydrivePro alongside Office 2010, do not install Lync through your Office 365 website !!!

That will always get you a click-to-run install, which turns out to be incompatible with SkydrivePro.

Instead, download the MSI version of Lync you, and then I believe you should have no problems with SkydrivePro.

Summing up, if you are not using Office 2013 and have this probem, try the following steps:

    1. Fully uninstalling every Office 2013 component through this Microsoft fix-it (here).
    2. If needed, install Lync2013 msi version (download here)
    3. Then Skydrive Pro (download here)

In all the cases I've personally came upon (Win7, Win8, Office2007, Office2010, several computers) that always worked out fine.
