Microsoft Office Upload Center cache constantly needs repair

I originally posted this in Office365 as that was the forum I was sent to from my Administrator panel. However, they have said to post here instead. So here goes.

Since a few days ago (around the time I installed Lync Basic instead of Lync 2010), the Microsoft Office Upload Center constantly needs repair. I have deleted the caches in User/App Data/Local/Microsoft/Office/14.0/OfficeFileCache and also /15/OfficeFileCache

It is the one in /15.0 that is the issue (now up to OfficeFileCache - 10.old).

When I try the repair option, it says something is accessing the cache and please close all Office apps. Even if there is no Office app running. I stopped Lync automaticallly starting, rebooted and still the same. I have to close in the systray SkyDrivePro and SkyDrive and then the Repair can continue. Then the error is cleared.

I can leave it for 10 minutes and the Upload Centre icon sits in the systray quite happliy. Until I open Windows Explorer and click on the SkyDrivePro icon, I can see my SkyDrivePro files in Explorer as normal with the green ticks, the SkyDrivePro icon in systray says it's up to date (nothing being processed) and then the Office Upload Center error comes back.

"The Microsoft Office Document Cache encountered a problem and needs to be repaired."

I have Office 2010 on the desktop and Office365 as my company's main work environment.

I'm baffled. How can I stop this happening? Thanks.

also

I have Office 2010 on my desktop and Office365 as the work environment as stated above. The only Office 2013 components are SkyDrivePro (which used to work fine without these cache issues) and Lync (just installed via Office365 as instructed by the Office365 site to upgrade the Lync2010 I used to have which worked fine).

You guys might want to look at this reply in another forum:

I am on a home peer to peer network with office 2013 so it may not be a solution if you are on a corporate domain but the solution suggested solved all my problems, including the corrupted cache that you are discussing.

Ok, so I just lost a couple of days fighting with this, and I'll I can say is "I'm done with Skydrive Pro".

In my case, after uninstalling everything, reinstalling everything, going on every possible direction, even restoring my Windows7 system back to Monday (before the problem arose), nothing solved the problem.

So, I kept trying, and after:

    - I deleted all of my files on the server,

    • completely uninstalled office using the fixt it
    • reinstalled office, then reinstalled skydrive

It worked again, I readded my files, and I had some hope...

That is until a coleague uploaded a file ... broken again...

Bottom line, at least in my case there is a scenario in which it always works without problems, which is when no "Click-to-run" component is installed in the system. That is, even installing Lync through Office 365 (which by default gives you c2r) kills it. So if you use lync you need the msi version (here)

So that means right now I have to choose between using either Office or SkydrivePro...

So good for Microsoft to claim how great and trouble-free c2r Office is ...

Bye bye SkydrivePro, until Microsoft sorts the mess they've got with two different versions of Office that can't get well together.

PS: Beware when you reset your cache, at least in my case that would break down Skydrive Pro. If you do reset your cache you need to stop syncing SkydrivePro libraries, then add them again. Otherwise nothing will sync.

Same problem here except no Lync.  I'm running Office 2013 and trying to sync my Sharepoint Online Team page library.

Folders sync fine.  I can create folders in Windows Explorer where I set the synced files to save and they will be added to the Sharepoint Online library.

However, files do not sync, whether they are created in the Sharepoint Libray or Windows Explorer.  The upload centre constantly says to repair the cache despite many attempts at deleting and restarting.

Same problem here when using both Win7 & Win8 PCs.

In my case I always have the following software:

    • Office 2010
    • Office 365 Home Premium
    • Lync 2013 Basic
    • SkydrivePro

When it happens it always start with some quick saving/moving of files within the skydrive pro folder, then there is no way to solve it unless I either:

    • Fully uninstall my Office 365
    • Create a different user

It has happened to me 4 times already, and each time I lose nearly a day to solve it.

It is truly amazing that Microsoft has released the Skydrive Pro piece of junk for enterprise work.

I've never had any problems with the regular Skydrive which has always proven to be both fast and reliable; nothing but nightmares since I tried to move to the Skydrive Pro for work-related tasks.

That thing was so horrible that after a few weeks we limited ourselves to use it for "shared libraries only" (because Skydrive can't do that), worked for a a month without messing things up, and today once again the same problem. Really Microsoft, retire this product until it's ready ... This isn't a beta for tech-savy geeks, this is supposed to be enterprise-class software.
