    If you receive this error:

“Something went wrong. Sorry, we ran into a problem. Go online for additional help. Error code 30174-4”

It could be your antivirus, malware software, or firewall interfering. You will need to temporarily disable them, and then try installing again. Follow these steps:

    For Windows 8 or 8.1

    • Right-click on the Windows      icon.
    • Click on Control Panel.
    • Click System and Security.
    • Under Action Center, click Review your computer’s status and resolve issues.
    • Click the arrow button next to Security.

If windows can detect your antivirus software, it’s listed under Virus protection. Check the Help information that came with your antivirus software for instructions on disabling it.

    For Windows 7

    • Open Action Center by clicking the Start button.
    • Click Control Panel.
    • Under System and Security, click Review your computer’s status.
    • Click the arrow button next to Security.

If windows can detect your antivirus software, it’s listed under Virus protection. Check the Help information that came with your antivirus software for instructions on disabling it.

For business versions of Office 2013:

Please check your proxy and firewall settings.

Getting the average user to disarm their antivirus to perform a software installation is ridiculous.

especially as we are talking about a Microsoft operating system and Microsoft software.

My Goodness how Microsoft appears to have lost its way.

I have worked in I.T. for over a decade with Microsoft Partner resellers and I have just about had enough!
