I had to hack the registry and find Microsoft-Office under all Software categories and delete Office folders for it to work.  The FixIt patch obviously did not clean everything out like it should have.

When I try to open Word 2013 on Windows 8.1, I receive the error message "Something went wrong. We couldn't start your program.  Please try starting it again.  If it won't start, try repairing Office from 'Programs and Features' in the Control Panel."  There is no error message number.  Going through "Programs and Features," folder, I find a program listing in the "Uninstall" section for "Microsoft Office 365  Home Premium" installed on 3/19/14, version 15.0.4569.1508, but no file size.

I also cannot print a scanned image (HPScanJet G3110) from the "Devices" option.  These are both new problems that have appeared in the last 24 hours.

I'm having this same problem.  One day Office works and the next I get this problem.  Microsoft you continue to surprise me with how low you have stooped.  Sort this out.  Unfortunately I have to use Office 2013 for work, otherwise I'd be on my beloved Mac.  Fix this NOW!!!!

I did the uninstall and reinstall and now it appears to work. Next, I will "disable the automatic updates for Office products" as you suggested. Thanks! I am really disappointed in Microsoft.
