Hi Helen,

I would need more details to assist you:

How was Office 365 purchased and from where?

Which Office 365 product did you purchase?

Did you register for Office 365 suite using the product key for the first time?

Are you installing Office 365 for the first time?

If not, a Product Key is only needed to set up your Microsoft account for the first time. Once you’ve set up a Microsoft account, you can install or reinstall Office at any time by visiting office.com/myaccount and signing in with your Microsoft account.

Let us know the details and hope the information is helpful.

    Hello Marion,

An Office Product key is an alphanumeric combination with 25 characters. Here’s an article that discusses about how to find your Office product key and what to do in case you lost it. Once you have found your Office product key, you can activate your Office 365 by following the steps provided in this link. It also includes troubleshooting steps to resolve any activation errors.

Since you mentioned that you forgot your Office 365 credential, you can refer to this **article**for instructions on how to reset your Microsoft Account.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have other questions.

Yeah, I have no idea how to access my 365 account.

Every year I get billed about £60 for 365, I'm not even sure how that started. Just bought a new laptop that already had Windows installed. Hard drive crashed, had it replaced, now telling me I need to activate Office or it'll shut down in two days.

Can't find the 365 code. Can't log into 365 because I can't find my user ID.

I have an automatic renewal notice from 2nd Feb saying I'm about to be charged, and the money went out of my account. Must have received something after that but can't find it.

    What do I do?

Sorry, that is not the sort of problem we can help with. No one on this forum has access to the MS online system.

Unfortunately that means you have to contact MS Support.  This is not a "simple" or "standard" problem that is likely to appear on the standard trouble shooting check list that front line support works from. Give them a chance, but just keep asking to be transferred to a supervisor.  At the start of the conversation, ask for a trouble ticket number. In theory they are supposed to record information from your session so that in practice when they "accidentally" hang up on you forcing you to call back you can provide the trouble ticket number to get a head start and hopefully avoid some of the stupid repetitive  check list questions (too bad it doesn't always work that way ... ). Personally, for this sort of "non-standard" issue I prefer to use the online chat version of support. That way you can save the date/time stamped transcript so when someone asks a repeat question you can just copy and paste your reply ... <grin>.

    Online chat support:**http://answerdesk.microsoftstore.com/AnswerTech**

I recently used online chat support myself. I found it had several advantages over phone support, even though you still contact the same outsourced, support personnel:

    • No ESL accent issues
    • Provides you with an instant time stamped transcript
    • When you get transferred to the “right” person, they can review the history
    • If they don’t read the history, you can copy / paste the past conversation to them, saving you having to repeat yourself
    • They are more likely to go off line to ask other people for help (good for you)
    • You don’t have to listen to “elevator muzak” when they are off line
    • You have 2 hands free to surf the web when they are not talking to you.

For some reason, I found that waiting for online chat responses intrinsically LESS  frustrating than listening to elevator muzak.

Make sure to copy the text from the chat window and save it before closing the chat window. It is handy to have a timestamped copy of the conversation, if only to publish it on the internet ... <evil grin>

A tale of woe. This guy’s information was social engineered from the Amazon help desk, 3 TIMES. Lucky for him, the first 2 times it was on online chat so he got transcripts of those chats.

Sorry to be part of the finger pointing merry-go-round. But there are no official published fixes from MS for your problem. We can provide generic answers. You have to pester MS for help or ask for your money back.

Many Microsoft products and product upgrades can be purchased via a retail store or online, then downloaded to your computer as an Electronic Software Download. In addition to buying your Microsoft product directly from Microsoft, you may have purchased it from another company. Please select the appropriate issue below to get assistance:

I need assistance with downloading electronic software that I purchased from an Online Retailer.

I am unable to find my product key (25 character alpha numeric product key) or my product key did not work.

I need assistance installing a downloaded product or I’ve already successfully installed the product and need technical support.

I need assistance with my PIN (27 character alpha numeric PIN) .

None of the issues above describe my issue or question.

I have my Product key but the day that I was installing the product the lights went off and the installation could not finish. Now my Product key is not working.
