Hi Helen,

I would need more details to assist you:

How was Office 365 purchased and from where?

Which Office 365 product did you purchase?

Did you register for Office 365 suite using the product key for the first time?

Are you installing Office 365 for the first time?

If not, a Product Key is only needed to set up your Microsoft account for the first time. Once you’ve set up a Microsoft account, you can install or reinstall Office at any time by visiting office.com/myaccount and signing in with your Microsoft account.

Let us know the details and hope the information is helpful.

    Alexis:

You don't have to contact MS Support.  This is one of the situations where 2016/365 is an improvement. You no longer need to have the full product key to re-install.  What you have to do is log in to the MyAccount site:**http://office.com/myaccount**

with your email account.  This will take you to your MS account. From there you will be able to deactivate the old installation and to install on the new computer.

Here are some MS support pages that give you more specific instructions on how to "manage" your account, including installs

    https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/DisplayHelpOfficeFAQPage/

    Manage, download, back up, or restore Office 365 / 2016 / 2013 / 2010 / 2007

    https://products.office.com/en-us/download-back-up-restore-microsoft-office-products   365 / 2016 / 2013 / 2010 / 2007 (you may have to scroll down)

Download and install Office - Video

"Setting up..." messages in the Office 365 admin center – This article says if you get a “Setting up …” error to wait 4 hours before reporting the problem to MS (for what this is worth).

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/office Requires Product key for 2010, 2007 or 2011 for Mac (I’m not sure if this page still works, please let me know if it doesn’t)

    https://setup.office.com/?ms.officeurl=setup – for Office 2016 ONLY

    https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/8-office-2016-direct-download-links

    • links to MS download of CTR installer stubs for multiple languages. Require retail product key

A user noticed something interesting. They were running the 365 installer, and found a way to get the 2013 (and earlier?) installer file.

It is really very simple but not explained anywhere: office365 is proposed to be installed and if you click (2 times) to install it, you have effectively the beginning of the installation and have to pay the licence even if you have another previous version.

But if you click (left one)  only one time on this version, you will see three possibility appear on your screen, of course the first is install office 365 but the 3rd one is "enter your key code" ... What does it mean ??? The key code for the new office 365? NO -->  I entered the key code of my previous office 2013 version and Youppie !! Windows began to search the office version which is linked to that key code. And installation is automatic and rapid. It detected that my version was a pro one and I have now the entire office 2013 available.

    </snip>
