how can I retrieve a product key for Office 365 that was lost

I would need more details to assist you:

How was Office 365 purchased and from where?

Which Office 365 product did you purchase?

Did you register for Office 365 suite using the product key for the first time?

Are you installing Office 365 for the first time?

If not, a Product Key is only needed to set up your Microsoft account for the first time. Once you’ve set up a Microsoft account, you can install or reinstall Office at any time by visiting office.com/myaccount and signing in with your Microsoft account.

    My parents bought me a laptop for my birthday from Walmart. It came with a Microsoft Office 365 Personal 1-year subscription but they misplaced the receipt that had the product key. How do I get the product key?

    In order to install Office 365/2016 on your second computer you have to have "Office 365 Home" (or use a workaround if you have 365 Personal).

    With 365, after you have activated it, you no longer need to use the product key to install on other computers.  On the new computer go to the MyAccount page:

    office.com/myaccount  . Log in with your email account, the click on the "Install" button, and again on the install.

    I tried to load Office 365 (Word 2016) like it is on my home computer -- on to my new laptop.  But I can't find the product key.  So now I have Office 2013 (only 3 programs).  I am not happy.  I have never seen so many problems.  Can you help me?

    Office 365 uses a different licensing model than Office 2013 Home and Business did.

    365 is licensed to your email address.

    IN THEORY

    you no longer need the product key. Office 2013 was licensed to the machine(s), not the person.

    In practice, I have seen several people complain on the forum that their 365 subscriptions have been magically expired months early.  The problem is, I suspect that even if they had the product key it would not work a second time. I suspect, that the activation system would tell them that it had already been "used up".

    But, here is how to find it for both 2016 and 365:
