Please try to uninstall Microsoft office 2010 from program list in Programs and features. It will appear there with most recent date of installation. After uninstall of that application, Microsoft office 2010 Starter should work as before the update.

*This will not uninstall your office starter

Detailed steps:

  1. Click Start, then click Uninstall program if you cannot see it click “Programs and features”
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click “Uninstall program” if you do not see it click “Programs and features”
  4. On the program list locate “Microsoft office 2010” not “Microsoft office 2010 Starter”
  5. Right click Microsoft office 2010 and click on uninstall option
  6. When uninstall finishes restart windows

    Hi Mauricio,

Yes that is normal because you have Office starter edition. If you would have full office version, Word application would named winword.exe.

    Hi Antonio,

Thank you very much for your answer. My Office Starter is running normally again.

Still, I have just one little doubt - when I right-click on the mouse, on a Word docx, and go for PROPERTIES, it says that the document is openned by the CLIENT VIRTUALIZATION HANDLER (as opposed to MS WORD, which I would expect).

Is that normal? Is that the way it should be, given that it is a STARTER version?

    Many thanks!

    Maurício

    Your solution worked!

I didn't see either "Uninstall program" or "Program and features" when I clicked on "Start"

so I clicked on "Control Panel" after clicking "Start".

From that point on, things worked!

Step # 4 is, of course, the most important step to be aware of.

I wonder why Microsoft Support had no answer for the person who claimed to have called them?

I started with Microsoft Windows version 2 and am now thinking seriously about abandoning

Microsoft in favor of Apple -- with Apple, there are FAR, FAR fewer problems!

Again, thanks for your insight in this matter!
