excel skips to another workbook for no apparent reason

Brittany, I'm not sure what you do for a living, but the US economy is doing really well right now and I'd go for it. Pick that computer up as high over your head as you can lift it, and SLAM it off the floor. Go for it!!

Oh, how I wish. I've only been here 8 months though - they'd think I'd lost my mind, which I'm pretty sure I do every time this happens to me.

Remember when Bill Gates was in charge? Excel was something to be proud of. He made sure that diagnostics were carried out before the program was let loose on the public. Sadly… His successors are not up to the task or they don't care.

This problem we are all experiencing is a direct result of this. It all started in 2013 when they changed from the opening of one application for all workbooks… to the opening of an application for each and every workbook.

An example of not running the diagnostics is that back in the day I was able to use the Iteration tool on a specific workbook; not any more. 

Recently I helped someone solve a problem caused by circular referencing. For my own work I like the challenge of solving problems without the use of it. A few years back I successfully created a spreadsheet to solve all Sudoku puzzles (no VBA) without getting a single circular reference warning. 

Now, when you switch on the Iteration tool; it is on for all workbooks. Was that an oversight? … Or did they consider it collateral damage when they fixed the unbroken program?

I have mentioned this before on this forum… I believe it is a relatively easy fix for Microsoft if only they bothered themselves with the issue. Granted, there has been a representative from Microsoft on this forum, but it needs to be from the top and not someone who means well. All that talk of Add-ons and Apps is ****.

Consider that everyone is experiencing the same problem; yet I am using the 2013 version with no trimmings. Not a single Add-on nor have I installed additional Apps.

One of the occurrences of, what I call 'jaunting into the unknown' is when I use hyperlinks, not the act of using it, but immediately after (but sometimes the program works properly after using a link). Other times I believe Excel is doing something in the background that is causing it.

One thing is certain though and that is when it jaunts into the unknown it is always into the last active cell in that workbook. I have also noticed that if I have a maximum of four workbooks open it doesn't jaunt as often. But more than that well… For me, it occurs five or six times a minute (I kid you not!).

The way I see it… When you save your work (whether it is manual or auto saved) the program actually saves all open workbooks at the same time… because there are as many application open as there are workbooks.

If you have any doubts about that… Open five or more workbooks and see how long it takes (some of my spreadsheet are upwards of 40 Mb).

And this is the crux of the problem… On completion of this task the default workbook ought to be the one that was currently active when Excel last saved them. I believe it is no longer the case. 

Whatever method the program is using to deal with this appears to be less problematic when less than five workbooks are open (for me maybe three or four times a day… And that day can be six to eight hours duration).

I call those 'brilliant morons' - 13 year script kiddies as MS employees seem to have the same mentality when writing code.

I am running an add-in from ActiveTick, but that add-in is the only reason (kind  of) that I am using Excel to begin with. I am working to learn API right now so I can dump Microsoft and their 13 year old script kiddies altogether.
