excel skips to another workbook for no apparent reason

Quite often when I try to make an entry into a cell excel appears to freeze.  If I hit the enter button it skips to a different workbook.  There are no links between the two workbooks.  This has been happening for some time and is very annoying.

Everyone in our factory is having this same problem(20+ engineers). I am one of the few that always is working with multiple workbooks so I see it multiple times a day. Sometimes it even prevents me from working in or saving the first workbook until I save the one it keeps jumping too.

    Hi Vardhaman,

    Thanks for your interest.

    1. What is the exact issue are you facing?

Like others responded on this thread, the issue is that when I think I am typing into one workbook, the text ends up appearing in another workbook that's open after I hit "enter". If there is already text or formula in the second workbook, it gets over-written.

    1. Did you try any troubleshooting steps?

No, because I doubt any of them would work (sorry, I am a pessimist now). I was looking on the net for a sure-fire solution when I found this thread. I think the only solution would be to have one workbook open at a time, which is not practical in the modern age.

    1. What is the version of Excel 2013 are you using?

Apparently I am using Office 365 ProPlus (though I am pretty sure it says it's Office 2013 when it opens). Version: 15.0.4805.1003 (updates are set to automatically install)

    Thanks,

    Graeme.

Same problem since I have owned this iteration of Excel - super frustrating. Microsoft needs to address.

    1. What is the exact issue are you facing?

Excel randomly stops responding (text or numbers typed don't appear in the active workbook). Hitting enter or double-clicking into a cell takes you to another workbook (the last active workbook prior to the current one).

    2. Did you try any troubleshooting steps?

Event happens at random. No obvious causes, so no obvious troubleshooting steps to try.

    3. What is the version of Excel 2013 are you using?

Excel 2013 (15.0.4787.1002) 32-bit. This has been happening since upgrading to Office 2013.
