excel skips to another workbook for no apparent reason

Quite often when I try to make an entry into a cell excel appears to freeze.  If I hit the enter button it skips to a different workbook.  There are no links between the two workbooks.  This has been happening for some time and is very annoying.

I never use the file preview (in Windows Explorer) feature.

And I get this problem, usually jumping between windows of the same file.

I have Office 365 and I haven't noticed it since the last couple of updates.

Running in Excel safe mode now.  Since this is an intermittent problem is there any reason I can't run in safe mode for a while to see if it shows up?  It seems to be running faster this way.

The only add in I can find that is checked is Actions : Date (XML).

Thanks for your reply.  It looks like this will take some work.  Will get back when I have done this.

I downloaded Office 365 subscription version to a new Windows 8 laptop on 12/15/2013.  It is version 15.0.4675.1003 32 bit.  The operating system is 64 bit.

The computer is not connected to a network.
