Use of own domain name with Office 365 Home/Premium

I am able to set up my domain name email in Office365 with GoDaddy - in Australia.  It is Office 365 Email Essentials.  I can upgrade to have it across all the office products but at the moment, Outlook 365 is works a treat!

I believe you are mixing things up here. Which is because Godaddy doesn‘t really distinguish the different product lines properly.

godaddy offers the following:

category „professional email“:

• email essentials
• email plus

Both of these are simply hosted exchange accounts.

You get an exchange mailbox with MAPI and outlook webclient.

And yes, of course you can get it with a custom domain.

This is a product that you can get from hundreds of providers worldwide.

It has, however, absolutely NOTHING to do with Office 365.

• business premium

  which apparently should belong rather to their second product category (and is also listed there as well):

Category „Microsoft Office“:

here you have 

• office essentials
• business 
• business premium

Yes, of course you can set you custom domain in the business plans. That was never the problem.

The problem is what is missing in this list: the pivate user plans: Office 365 home and personal.

What we are discussing here is that there is no option to use a custom domain withing the O365 home/premium plans, even though they just integrated most of the outlook.com features which originally *included* this function.

yes of course you can have an O365 plan and additionally have a hosted eychange mailbox such as GoDaddy offers, but that will be two seperate plans then.

• No functional integration (e.g. mail / onedrive or word/email) and also
• a really heavvy price impact (O365 home/premium targets private users, hosted exchange targets SMB, rarely will a private user pay for an hosted exchange, as it is much more expensive that an non-exchange mail account.

So thanks very much for your posting, but I am rather sure that the product that you reffe to has nothing to do with O365.

People act like Google is just a non-profit good guy company and Microsoft is the enemy. I guess it's all the fashion to bash Microsoft.

Get rid of your Gmail and get a real email Exchange account. Gmail is crude compared to Exchange. Always was and always will be. 

When people grow up they realize in the business world people use Exchange.

But I'm not sure I understand what this suggestion has to do with the problem?

Am I wrong or is that about aliases = different names to use to log in to an MS account?

How does this allow me to use Office 365 email servers with an external domain?

This isn't about using O365 for external domains, its about O365 Home NOT offering email domain hosting. There are a lot of us who have personal domains that we use, mine is my lastname.com. I currently pay GoDaddy for hosting. I think it should be an option to pay MS to do that. IMHO, it should be included in my current subscription, but I would pay more for the option to dump GoDaddy (or any other hosting service) to have all of my services consolidated into one provider. They offer this in their business plans and their outlook.com email service is already Exchange-based. Why not offer it to home users?
