Use of own domain name with Office 365 Home/Premium

Hi DMcHenryABC,

Did you get this set up?  My personal domain is hosted with GoDaddy.  Does GoDaddy host the email side of things too or is it done through Outlook (Office365Home)?  I'm still trying to work out how I can get this going.  I was looking at setting up Business Essentials if I don't find a workaround - hence the reason I'm writing to find out what you ended up doing.  I don't have any more than 1 email address, something I've had for 20 years, I don't see why I should change it now. thanks

I can't believe it's still not possible to use a custom personal domain with Office 365 Home.

When I contacted Microsoft support teams, they have no clue what I'm even requesting. After one hour on the phone, being transferred to various teams, I gave up.

If I were to use Google Suite, it's simple to associate a domain name. Incredibly frustrating that Microsoft can't offer this.

Apparently there was the service "Outlook.com premium" available in the US only that did offer the required function (set your Domain to MS-MX entries to allow mail natively to be handled on putlook.com Servers).

However that product apparently has been discontinued "October 2017" - YESTERDAY!!! (bad luck for me).

It says there that it was discontinued because a lot of features are made available to O365 home/personal now.

Well, I'll hold my fingers crossed, But I don't believe it just yet that incorporating an external Domain will just appear in my account.

And: yes, it's too sad they don't offer this. What a waste of customer binding to your product-opportunity.

Microsoft has stated that custom domains won't be a feature for the new Office365 Home/Personal/Premium. That is reserved for Business accounts.

Nothing personal, just business.

I think it is possible to see that Microsoft is switching to being mainly a cloud business company. There is not enough money in the home sector, and they are giving up on it. Even Windows 10 is "free" for home users, but it is not for companies (even if you did not manage to get a free upgrade from 7/8 to 10 for free at the time, 10 is the last version you are going to buy).

Email: MS does not see big revenues in scanning your emails and showing targeted adds, like Google does, so they giving up on that segment as well by pushing everyone to the 365 sector. We are pain in the a$s for them with our custom domains, because it requires the infrastructure that costs, and we are not generating enough revenue to keep it running. My bet is that there are not enough premium accounts registered, so there is not enough paying customers to support the feature. 

They (MS) are not your friends; they are not going to be nice to you, just because you ask them nicely or even have thousands of people voting for a feature. They are a [very] profit oriented company with hungry and greedy shareholders, just like any other big company that is "continuously increasing shareholders value". They are not building things for the people. They are building things for the money.

So, I suggest we instead. discuss different options of how to go around and make things work for us by suggesting services that are home segment friendly.
