Use of own domain name with Office 365 Home/Premium

Office 365/2016, Home supports exchange

I just bought the office home package with five licenses for my family cause I could never in my wildest imagination think that personal domain wasn't supported. Is this for real? Its 2015 ffs! Half the point of buying this solution for me was to ease the management, not having to deal with two services from two different companies. Also not hazzling with pop/imap on every device for every family member......

I would pay for an integrated hosted exchange service from MS if the option was there. But the option isn't there.

This is lame.

Luckily I only bought a one month subscription... Looks like we are staying at google after all. This is clearly a deal breaker for me.....

the hosted exchange solution is office 365 business/ education which can be purchased. You can add your domain email to a outlook.com mailbox and add it on as an alias. You can then use it to send and receive and the from address will be your domain. 

majority of the people who buy office 365 home are for the 5 device office licenses and 1TB of cloud storage. Those that go for the office 365 home and 'assume' this is the same service as office 365 business are not reading the product correctly. 

you associate the benefits of office 365 home to your family whom have microsoft accounts already. these accounts will not allow you to log into office 365 as it is totally different. you will be able to log into outlook.com / hotmail etc but not login.microsoft ...

microsoft stopped the custom domain support on hotmail/ outlook over a year ago and google likewise.

The point is. Why is it not possible to buy the hosted exchange service with the home solution? Im not a student and Im not a business. Why in earth am I expected to buy a solution that is named after a completely different customer group? It doesn't make any sense at all. To be frank, it's plain stupid. Am I supposed to read your minds and guess this before the purchase?  It's like going to the mens barbershop and they say. -Ohh, you want that haircut? We don't do that haircut, try the womens hairdresser across the street.

-but Im not a woman, and this is a perfectly normal haircut and you already made me pay,".

And the barber say.

-yes, but the majority want this haircut so that is what we offer. 

-But I'm here know, and it's possible for you to do this, a lot of people kind of expect you to do more than one haircut, since you have a barbers sign on your door. And you made me pay in advance. Isn't this fraud?

It's like "the majority of car buyers buy a station wagon, so we won't sell pickups, sedans or SUV's....." Can you even grasp the what you are saying? On my street alone I know of 5 families that use their own domain, they weren't 5 years ago...... but they are now, and it is getting more and more common. Seems like microsoft is missing the train....... again......

That is not the case at all. They don't have microsoft accounts at all. We use google at the moment....

-This is not true, with google you can still use private domains with the free version of gmail, what they have removed is free google apps. But the free google apps are still there if you already have a free google apps account.

The bottom line here is. You need to be much clearer with the limitations of office 365 home. There is no info on the site when you are to make the purchase. You have just wasted hours for me focusing on office 365 home, and I bought a subscription that is useless to me. My family is not going to change the email addresses we have been using since 1995. If you have an interest in making money, you need like a home premium version that has all the small business features. It's confusing and bad practice to assume that private persons have knowledge of the MS-portfolio and that a customer should know that a private person can even buy a product called office 365 for business. "for business" means 99 times out of 100 that you need a registered company to buy the product....

I agree that MS could provide more information regarding domain support for non business office 365 subscriptions but also like with any product or service research is required.

If domain support is one of your main requirements a quick on the internet does provide a lot of results regarding the non domain support for non business. 

like when buying a car there are many non standard features and walking into a show room and assuming what you see is what you get is another thing.

I do not see MS adding domain support or you will get a lot of business subscribers jumping ship getting 5 office licenses and email. The future to provide a service + subscription model, the office 365 home is a damn good package 5 office device licenses plus more for less than $50 a year.

Can you not just add an alias to your outlook.com account and fwd all mail to outlook.com? So then you can email out using your own domain and receive email via your domain. Calendar, Contacts etc will all be kept in outlook.com and it can be sync to outlook the app. I do not understand why this is not a workaround as your still can send and receive via your own domain?
