Having additional aliases (not only 1 address per Office Account) is a precondition for proper use for me as well, yes. But:

This is a totally seperate issue. This can be done of course. You just forward all other aliases from other domains into the respective box here @MS. Or you could forward email coming in into the office-box outwards
somewhere else.
The limit just is as far as one can see today that you only have 1 address per office license, so the size of your setup is pretty limited.
