Use of own domain name with Office 365 Home/Premium

You can add any mail account (Domain) you like to Outlook, contained in the 365 suite, if that mail provider supports pop or IMAP mail

You may have to manually add/configure the mail account settings

Can't you use POP3/IMAP? This way you can sebd emails using your own domain.

The only advantages in using Google Apps model are:

• I would be sending emails from highly reliable Microsoft servers. But so far hosteurope, strato or Go daddy have good reputation in online mailing. 
• I would be able to create emails from withing O365. But creating them in the hosting provider is very quick.

The advantage of using POP3/IMAP:

You can send emails from as many email addresses as you want. 

Why do I understand Microsoft won't be doing this move anytime soon? Because startups would the abuse of this and pay a lot less to Microsoft for their services. However it wouldn't be a bad idea for Microsoft to support startups with a 5 headed package for 99$.

I did not misunderstand the instructions. They misunderstood my requirements :-)

I know I can setup Outlook (desktop) to sync/download email from Outlook.com and Gmail.  The issue here was that I cannot have my own domain (non-commercial use) in Office365 Home Premium because MS wants us to buy a business subscription just for this scope.

As you can see from this thread, there are A LOT of users who own personal domains and would love to be able to configure this in Office365 Home Premium.

You seem to have misunderstood the instructions given;

MS Outlook (as part of some Office versions) is completely separate to outlook.com which can be accessed via a browser, or added to MS Outlook as a mail account.

If you have MS Outlook configured with your outlook.com mail account, you simply add a second mail account, your Gmail one, using the settings provided by Gmail, the mail account can be added as a pop mail account of IMAP account.

The IMAP account is a copy of what is on the Gmail server, so that type of account should be used, if you plan to access the mail account also on another device.

You will then have two sets of folders (mail accounts within MS Outlook) the outlook.com folder list, and the Gmail folder list

Because I set this up before MS withdrew the service, me and my mum still use my family domain name email addresses (which are still part of Hotmail or outlook.com).

I have five nieces and nephews, I went to the  Windows Live Admin Centre and that is when I found out I could no longer add accounts for each of them (for the reasons MS state above).

Because MS no longer support this facility, and at some point will probably be totally withdrawn, I will be forced to find another company.

At the moment I am avoiding this because my mum is in her 80's and gets distressed when she can't access her email to check if she has mail from the lottery.

The other thing is that I could setup outlook.com email addresses for my nieces and nephews, in order that they gain the benefit of teaching them the use of MS Office. But I do not see why I should have to. MS lost a subscription sale just for this reason.

I use Office 365 Business Premium for my one man band business which is great as I have the added benefit of a website, but if I want to have individual accounts I have pay a subscription for each one, which works out to be very expensive.
