Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.
This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations
That looks like a good place to start.
Elsewhere in this thread, duffym111 suggested making the appropriate registry key(s) read-only. Have you tried it (note that it may not be supported on all versions of Windows)?

Heh. In the opinion of Microsoft's designers and marketers, you're wrong about that. With Office showing up on tablets and phones (which now account for more than half of annual "computer" sales), they think that people will start using Word as a reader. I sure wouldn't want to try to write more than a few words at a time on any mobile platform, though.
