Disable "pick up where you left off"

Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.

This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.

    Well, uninstalling Office 2013 seems like overkill, when there is a registry hack that actually works. Of course, it would be even better if there was an option in Word 2013 to turn off the resume reading feature.

    Starting with the permissions concept that others mentioned, I deleted all the Document # subkeys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locationsand then added a permission for the Everyone group to deny the creation of a subkey:

    1. Run Regedit
    2. Right-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click Add
    5. Select principal Everyone
    6. Click Show all permissions
    7. Click Clear all
    8. Click the Create Subkey check box.
    9. Click OK
