I am running Windows 8 and am unable to repair Microsoft Word 2013 after getting this message.  I also get this message when trying to open all microsoft office documents.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I will assist you in providing steps to determine the cause of the issue while working with Office 2013 on the computer.

This error may also occur if the Office installation is corrupted.

Do you have multiple version of Office installed in the computer?

Step 1:

You may run the fix it from the article below to remove corrupt Office 2013 keys from the computer:

Note: Try to save the fix it tool to the desktop and then run it to remove Office.

If fix it tool failed to run, you may try the manual removal of Office 2013 step from the above article.

Step 2:

Try the steps from the section ‘Start an In Private browser session’ in the article below:

Once you complete the above mentioned steps, you may download Office 2013 using the link below and install it using the subscription license and verify the status

    Something else you're failing to take into account is that I DO NOT WANT IT ON MY COMPUTER. I am not reinstalling it. I want it to GO AWAY PERMANENTLY.

    Seriously, it's dug in like a tick. It continually makes itself the default program, even though I've told it not to be, both for individual documents and as the default for those file types. It's showing up in my list of programs in some places, but not in the section where it can be uninstalled -- because supposedly I already uninstalled it. Clearly enough pieces were left behind that it's triggering these warnings and forcing itself to be the default, but not enough that I can actually do anything about it.

    Microsoft has a broken product, and you need to make an uninstaller that actually works. Stop trying to put it on the users who, in some cases, have paid you hundreds of dollars to use this software, but are being asked to go in and dig around in their computer registry (Careful! You could trash your computer!) as if it's an actual solution. There are also tens of thousands of customers out there who aren't reading this forum, some of whom barely know how to defragment their hard drive let alone alter their computer's registry safely.

    I followed the suggested procedure exactly.  Uninstalled office 2013, reinstalled.  Same problem.

    Hello,

    I can understand how it feels if Office application does not work as expected and the same steps has been suggested again which is already followed by the technicians.

    The troubleshooting steps mentioned in my previous reply is the resolution to resolve the something went wrong error.

    Manually uninstalling Office components from the computer and reinstalling it using the installation source file as resolved this error for many customers, hence provided you the same steps to resolve the issue permanently.

    If the above steps fail, provide us brief information what happens if the uninstallation step fails or if the reinstallation step fails.

    If both uninstall and reinstall work, but if you have the same issue with Office application.

    Hello Raju;

    In all due respect I have tried several attempt of this via the MS Technical support.  They worked on my computer remotely and uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times.  this was done by a couple of 2nd tier tech reps. 

    As you can see, I am not the only who has encountered this problem.  It is an on going one.  Please let your peers and the powers that be at MS know this is an issue with many people.  We want a guaranteed fix and don't want to try umpteen different solutions all of those that have yet to fix the problem.
