I too, have not been able to fix the problem using all of the posted remedies. I was tempted to revert backwards to MS Office 2007, which was installed prior to 2013. However, before I did, my system (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) started painfully slowing down and some Windows updates failed with errors. So, finally I did a refresh of the OS. After I completed the install (including all the drivers chipset, HDD, sound, etc) I installed MS Office 2013 and I have not had that annoying problem in the past 4-6 weeks. This is never a solution for that annoying problem that so many consumers have wasted time and money on. This whole experience has made me think back to when I uninstalled 2007 and installed 2013 and, if some piece of 2007 software, file or registry entry was left behind and was the root cause of the problem.

There was another recent post From Andre Austin, 8/21/2014, he said:

IfI still had the problem I would have tried that. I looked at that on my system just now so I know that his navigation to “WINWORD.EXE is correct.  I hope other people do try it and it works for them.

I’m going to stay "notified" to this post for a few more weeks to read any more replies.

I know how difficult it is if you are unable to work with Office application installed on the computer.

Since ‘fix it’ failed to resolve the issue, lets  manually uninstall Office 2013 by following the section ’**Manual steps to remove Microsoft Office 2013 MSI installations’**from the following article this will remove all the installed components of Office 2013 from the computer.

Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Once the uninstallation is completed you may sign in to www.office.com/myaccount using the subscribed/registered email address, download and install Office from my account page and verify the status.

You may also refer to the general troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article below while installing Office 2013/Office 365 subscription.

...To everyone else reading this thread, I appear to be in the same magical 5% boat with rocketmama. There are no "preview panes" open when this occurs.

IT'S A FLAWED PRODUCT. PERIOD. It's only just barely short of malware, and frankly there should be a class-action lawsuit.
