Hi Dan,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I will assist you in providing steps to determine the cause of the issue while working with Office 2013 on the computer.

This error may also occur if the Office installation is corrupted.

Do you have multiple version of Office installed in the computer?

Step 1:

You may run the fix it from the article below to remove corrupt Office 2013 keys from the computer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Note: Try to save the fix it tool to the desktop and then run it to remove Office.

If fix it tool failed to run, you may try the manual removal of Office 2013 step from the above article.

Step 2:

Try the steps from the section ‘Start an In Private browser session’ in the article below:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2811180

Once you complete the above mentioned steps, you may download Office 2013 using the link below and install it using the subscription license and verify the status

https://officesetup.getmicrosoftkey.com/

https://office.microsoft.com/MyAccount.aspx

I hope the above steps help. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

I already did re-install the software, that is my point, nothing you say (or anyone)to do works!

I see. You'd rather argue and play "gotcha." This is where my interactions with you end.

...To everyone else reading this thread, I appear to be in the same magical 5% boat with rocketmama. There are no "preview panes" open when this occurs.

IT'S A FLAWED PRODUCT. PERIOD. It's only just barely short of malware, and frankly there should be a class-action lawsuit.

Oh man... People like you.  I can either get angry, or I can laugh.  I choose to laugh at you.  Let's look objectively at the two parties in this conversation:

On the one hand, you've got me.  I'm just a regular guy, like many others on these forums, who is trying to help out other users on the forums, not for pay, not for benefit, simply because I have encountered similar errors and hope to help others.

Then, there's you.  You're belligerent, rude and somehow think you're entitled to these free support attempts and that Microsoft somehow *owes* you something.  You have argued with and derided every statement I've made, every attempt at help, every suggestion for a solution.  You seem more interested in being holier-than-thou right than in being assisted in finding the solution to the problems.  And, what's worse, you hijacked someone else's thread to do it rather than begin your own support conversation.

All that aside, it's your attitude that I find most infuriating.  "I use Windows 7, not 8. I wouldn't use 8 if you paid me."  Why would you say that so rudely and aggressively?  Why do you think you're entitled to such vitriol against a product?  Do you go around talking about Volvos and Mercedes in the same way?  "I drive a Honda, not a Ford.  I wouldn't drive a Ford if you paid me."  Is that the kind of thing you say all the time?  Do you then expect a mechanic to joyfully help you resolve your car troubles?  "...and frankly there should be a class-action lawsuit."  Against whom?  For what tort?  What crime was committed against what class of people?  Do you contemplate legal recourse when you dislike the pasta at Olive Garden?  "This carbonara uses ham, not bacon.  It's only just barely short of garbage, and frankly there should be a class-action lawsuit."

You did get one thing right, though.  This is, in fact, where our interactions end, where I cease attempting to help you resolve your issue.  You've consistently and repeatedly demonstrated your lack of interest in problem resolution, or even basic troubleshooting.  You've also, to those of us with any kind of technical know-how, demonstrated how woefully ignorant about the product you are.  I would even, if I were inclined to be as disrespectful as you, venture a guess that you couldn't even identify the Preview Panes that you so pejoratively put in quotation marks, but, as I said, that is only something I would bring up were I inclined to incivility.  I am not so inclined, though, so I shan't mention it.  I shall, however, wish you well in your endeavors and kindly invite you to take your arrogance and discourteous discourse to your local walk-in tech support shop and leave these forums to those who are legitimately engaged in a search for a solution.

If you read through this entire post you will see that the above stesp DO NOT WORK.  This has been told to you several times with no other fixes from you.   All you send is  a "form" response but don't really care if it helps someone.   Isn't that the whole point of using this forum is to find a solution?

I have done all of this and I reinstalled office and it still does it.

So why not be truthful....there is NO fix for this problem.

It is better to be just honest than to let people waste their time on a fix that does not fix the problem.

I too, have not been able to fix the problem using all of the posted remedies. I was tempted to revert backwards to MS Office 2007, which was installed prior to 2013. However, before I did, my system (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) started painfully slowing down and some Windows updates failed with errors. So, finally I did a refresh of the OS. After I completed the install (including all the drivers chipset, HDD, sound, etc) I installed MS Office 2013 and I have not had that annoying problem in the past 4-6 weeks. This is never a solution for that annoying problem that so many consumers have wasted time and money on. This whole experience has made me think back to when I uninstalled 2007 and installed 2013 and, if some piece of 2007 software, file or registry entry was left behind and was the root cause of the problem.

There was another recent post From Andre Austin, 8/21/2014, he said:

Try this, it worked for me:

    * First find out the Microsoft Office 2013 or 365. By default, the folder is located atC:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15

    * Go into theROOTfolder and thenoffice15folder. Scroll down until you seeWINWORD.EXE.

    * Right-click on it and selectProperties*. OnCompatibilitytab, check “Run as admin” box and thenOKbutton. Perform the same task for other related apps.*

IfI still had the problem I would have tried that. I looked at that on my system just now so I know that his navigation to “WINWORD.EXE is correct.  I hope other people do try it and it works for them.

I’m going to stay "notified" to this post for a few more weeks to read any more replies.
