Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

Well, I thought I was insane, or that my computer was broken. But after searching high and low, reinstalling my OS, reinstalling Office, and crossing my fingers...nothing.

But I'm glad others are reporting the same issue.

I have work to do today, and I'm very disappointed in Microsoft. The product normally works so well.

I' have the same problem on my brand new Mac Book Air, that I bought yesterday. Seeing that the problem seems to exist since 4th of February make me angry... especially because Microsoft charges per month...

Is there a possibility to return the licenses and get back the money?

Contact Microsoft Billing and get a refund. I bought my subscription yesterday and after four hours of this, I told them I wanted a refund. Not willing to pay $99 annually for something that is unreliable and lacks real product support.
