Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

Same here. New Mac Book Air. Office 365 University. UK. Can access (but not Access ;o) Microsoft account without issue. I looked at the certificate issue referenced above, but there are no blue crosses. I'm going to phone MS, despite this being a well reported issue, in an effort to get them to pull their fingers out and sort the issue.

So far I've had to order a new Windows 8.1 pro (to dual boot) and then buy Office 365, just to open a single Access file. Not great.

Update: After speaking with Microsoft Mac Tech Support:

"I understand. I'm sorry to hear that. As of the moment, this is an emerging issue as of the moment. And the Office for Mac department already advised us to try to activate your Office every after 2 hours

This is still being investigated by our Office for Mac specialist with regards to this issue."

Thankfully, it works perfectly on Windows 8 Dual boot with VMWare.

    Good Luck Everyone!

Update 2: I'm not getting the specific error message now. Instead, when I try to sign in to activate I get:

"Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist."

I'm from Hong Kong. Same problem here. Very disappointed and frustrated.  I think MS should offer us a temporary and alternative way to use Office before the issue can be fixed.  It caused so much inconvenience to the users.

I'm giving it till this evening (as in, a full workday without Office - highly inconvenient), before I turn to Pages/Numbers/Keynote.
