Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

I've got exactly the same issue, have reinstalled a few times and even resorted to reinstalling the OS :( Tried countless 'chat' desks, one just keep saying I'll be with you in a few minutes, sorry I'll be with you soon, etc etc, at which point i asked how long the wait was and they cut me loose! Another guy said he "wasn't trained" to deal with this problem on a Mac and that he couldn't put me through to the mac specialists because they were too busy. He gave me two phone numbers (one international and the other number wasn't connected).

Glad to know I'm not alone, but also running a business and can't afford another day down!

hoping to wake up to a solution tomorrow morning.

I'm having the same issue too! My MacBook Pro suddenly logged me out of Office last night, so naturally tried to log back in and keep getting that error message. Probably no point clogging up the phone lines so I guess my coursework will have to wait... Please let me know if the problem is resolved for any of you

Similar issue with me.  My wife's MacAir is working fine whilst my iMac isn't.  Both are sharing the same Office 365.  Both machines are a month old and have been working fine to date.

I logged a call with Tech support (after having to install Firefox because Safari and Chrome couldn't deal with Microsoft's help desk :-() They logged my call and promised to call me back tomorrow between 9 and 11am. Not easy to run a business without e-mail access, Word and Excel these days... maybe it's time to give Pages and Numbers a go...
