Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

Hi. I am having same problem. Stopped working last night and kept asking me to log in. Kept getting the error message. Have been using one of my friend's subscriptions and thought I would download it myself and paid for a subscription - new account details don't work either (so it's obviously an issue). Spent hours on phone to tech support who finally said there was a server error at their end. She said try this morning. It's still now working so am now at work and can't use my laptop. So annoyed. Anyone had any joy?

This is AWFUL!  I have paid an annual subscription for this service and previously registered and used the software on my Macbook Pro.

Yes, I tried the security certificate route - no blue crosses to be seen.

I signed into onedrive successfully so it is not a password issue.

I'm having the same problem. Brand new MacBook Air. Can't activate Office 365 on my computer. Getting the same error code for hours. I may have to give up for the night and try again in the morning.
