If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

It looks like there was a fix for this last year. However, I have a student experiencing the same problem on her mac. She gets the same exact error. We've reset her office 365 password, had her uninstall and then reinstall office and try logging in with the same credentials used to log into the office 365 site and same error appears. Our administrator has checked her account and it shows that her license is valid and her subscription hasn't expired. We don't know what else to try.

Click on the Desktop so the Finder is active.

Under the Apple in the Menu bar, select Force Quit...

    Select Word > Quit.

You can always power down your Mac if all else fails.

I also am not able to reactivate my Office 365 Personal subscription on my Mac.  I purchased it in August 2014.  I have moved and had to change my internet provider from Telus (BC Canada) to Bell (Ontario Canada).  I can't even shut down /reboot my laptop because I need to close MS Word.  I can't close MS Word . . . I desperately need to be able to use MS Word.  I updated with MS Security but am told I need to wait 30 days !!!  So in regards to your suggestion above, I am not able to attempt activation again.  It's not working.  Can you help?  Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem. I see that it has recurred since this initial posting.

It has now been a number of days since I have been able to access Office. Can you please rejig the root cause and perhpas prevent it from happening again. If it's not possible to prevent is it possible to monitor and act immediately?

    Cheers.
