Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

    So....

I am an American college student. I am majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Film Studies. I got my Macbook Pro for the products Apple offers for writers and filmmakers. However, I also got my Mac because I appreciated how Microsoft Office looks on Macs. I thought it would be cool to have it.

Unfortunately, I am having the same problems as everyone else with activating Office 365. It won't take my product key, I can't sign into the subscription, the Answer Desk is apparently too busy to chat with me or take my call, and I am frustrated with Microsoft right now.

Up until today, Microsoft had always been a reliable company for me. I have always had PCs and I even purchased a Microsoft Surface RT to use for college. This would be my first Mac, and so far I love everything about it. But, this problem with Microsoft is confirming the reason I got a PC and that Microsoft might not care about its customers as much as we care about them.

I would love to attempt to get a refund for the program, but I need Microsoft Office especially Word for school. I have summer classes that start in less than 2 weeks where I need Word. I wish it were as simple as switching to Pages and Keynote, but my school is just not that Mac-friendly.

This is extremely problematic. Has anyone heard anything new? I don't really care if this is an old or a new problem. I just need this to be fixed soon.

    Thanks, guys! :)

OK, I just signed on to Office 365 (2:11 EDT), seems that MS got the site fixed. Give it a go.
