Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications aren’t compatible with Windows 8 (or Windows 8 Pro).

If you have Office 2003, it’s recommended that you upgrade to a newer version of Office to avoid any potential problems.

You should also go to the Windows Compatibility Center to see if the applications and devices on your PC are compatible with Windows 8.

    Lol...The new Office Programs from Microsoft are insanely priced...with all of the Office Freeware out there...who is fool enough to pay inflated prices for a new program when Windows 8 could easily be made BACKWARD COMPATIBLE to accept Office 2003 by an adept programmer? The operating system cost me $40 and the Office Program costs $400 +?!!! Give me a break! I paid $35 for Office 2003 and I expect I should be able to upgrade for a reasonable price.

    This particular incompatibility has no connection with Windows 8.  The format of the PST changed between Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 from ANSI to UNICODE.  Outlook 2003 and later can open an ANSI PST, but Outlook 2002 and earlier can't open a UNICODE PST.  The solution, then, is to create an ANSI PST in the later version and transfer the data to it.  This would be true no matter what version of Windows you used.
