Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications aren’t compatible with Windows 8 (or Windows 8 Pro).

If you have Office 2003, it’s recommended that you upgrade to a newer version of Office to avoid any potential problems.

You should also go to the Windows Compatibility Center to see if the applications and devices on your PC are compatible with Windows 8.

    I have windows 8 and a (legitimate) Office 2003. It works fine except for the EULA popping up every time. It sounds like you found a fix for that but I could not track it down. Could you provide a specific link (or specific instructions) for how to fix the EULA problem?

    Never mind - figured it out. You just need to open Word with "Run as Administrator" once so it can set the right 'Accepted'  flag (presumably in the registry or in a hidden file somewhere). After that its fine.

    Hmm.  The information at that link is typical of MS support; 100% accurate and 100% useless.  It just says Office 2003 is "not compatible".  Which components/interfaces/operations work or dont work?  What are the symptoms - failure to open a file (OK) or file corruption (not OK)?  Clearly much of the core functionality is compatible (see other comments) ...seems MS is again punting rather than supporting the most successful & widely used version of Office. Not smart IMHO.

    In my case, I use a lot of VBA in a complete business system. (customers, actions, invoices, reminders and financial administration. Office pro 2003. It uses Access, Word and Excel interactively, programmed in VBA. Now in Windows 8 my VBA cannot open (word or other)-objects/instances anymore. The rest of the before mentioned problems are solvable or do not prevent my applications to run, but the blocking of creating / opening objects in VBA I have not solved yet. Anyone have a suggestion to overcome that?

    I am very very frustrated that I cannot buy laptops with Vista or maybe Win7. I just bought a laptop of about 900 euro and cannot use it for the most important part of my business......

    Up till now I was a Microsoft fan, but since they now ruined my business system I have to look elsewhere or buy/build a new computer with Vista, which worked flawlessly...

    And I have to say that the new interface really slows me down............

    So I was forced in a much worse situation and I am really discontent with Microsoft.
